Obama Mocks Tea-Party Protestors While Taking Advantage of Tax Loopholes For Himself
David Horowitz's NewsReal Blog ^ | Joseph Klein

As usual, the mainstream media plays down the Tea Party protests except when it tries to paint them in a bad light. For example, the Tax Day protests in Washington, D.C. were buried on p. 17 of The New York Times, right above an article reporting that the Obamas paid $1,792,414 in federal income taxes on earnings of $5,505,509 for 2009. Is that juxtaposition supposed to be some sort of subtle message that President Obama shares our pain and, therefore, we have nothing to be upset about?

In truth, Obama’s tax reporting raises some concerns of its own. For example, I would like to know why the Obamas deducted $52,195 in home mortgage interest payments and $22,456 in real estate taxes when they have lived for free at taxpayer expense in the White House since January 20, 2009? Even if there were a loophole that they were entitled to take advantage of, why didn’t the Taxer-in-Chief forego these deductions, as well as his $329,100 in charitable deductions, as an example to the rest of us? After all, his Vice President Joe Biden said that paying higher taxes is the “patriotic” thing for the wealthy to do.

For his part, Obama told a fundraiser in Miami in mocking tones that Tea Party protestors should be thanking him for lower taxes:

You would think they’d be saying thank you

With that bit of prompting, his dutiful fans stood up and yelled, “Thank you!”

I believe that he still owns his Chicago home and is entitled to deduct the property taxes & the mortgage interest, regardless of whether he lives in the White House.

I want to know how long after he is deposed that it will be before he is in foreclosure?

That high of a property tax bill is enough reason to leave Chicago.

How did this President earn $5 Million dollars as President? Isn’t his salary around $400,000 a year? He never even had a job before he became President.

...the Tax Day protests in Washington, D.C. were buried on p. 17 of The New York Times...

Anecdotal datapoint: Was listening to some radio news broadcast this morning, which carried a report by some CNN reporter on location at some tea party event yesterday.

The first two sentences from the reporter announced the fact of the event. The next two announced that the movement is getting some counter activity. Then she went to a recording of an interview with some anti-tea protestor.

About 2/3 of the story, or thereabouts, was setting up the anti-tea viewpoint, and the time and quotes given to the anti-tea protestor.

My bet is that more persons heard this wire service news report than any portion of, say, Rush Limbaugh, yesterday.

We gotta call our local news outlets every day, complain about their wire feeds, and force them to start thinking about alternative news source feeds.

I’m as big an Obama-hater as any, but I believe that current law allows you to deduct property taxes and mortgage payments on a second home. And in any case, the Chicago house probably counts as his first home, even though he’s living high on the hog in the White House.

I wrote a Facebook entry asking one of our local stations to get off the endless Ben Roethlisberger story and cover some real news...like maybe yesterday’s tea party? I noticed just now that my entry isn’t there anymore.

Shouldn’t the perks that go with the job be taxable income? Air Force One; trips to NYC and Paris on dates; and medical at Walter Reed are examples.

Also, why didn’t he file AMT?

IRS audit....Waiting....

I have no objection to Obama taking advantage of any tax deductins he can find. Heck, I did that and probably many others did too. What I object to is that high and mighty position that all of us should pay high taxes (the higher the better) while he gets to keep most of the money he makes. As this administration progresses, more and more of our deductions and exemptions will disappear and we will be paying far more in taxes, but he will keep all the deductions and exemptions for himself. If he wants to “soak the rich,” he ought to set an example and pay more himself. Of course, it will be a cold day in hell before that would happen.

How did he earn almost 6000000 dollars? I thought the Potus only made in the hundreds of thousands?

IMHO, the handful of wire services and original sources for national and international news, which feed our local and regional radio newscasts and newspapers, are the proper targets for mass conservative action.

I may be wrong, but I believe that middle America gets its news and view of the world from LOCAL FM radio and the first five paragraphs of stories in the LOCAL paper. This middle America is disinterested in either the Huffington Post or Free Republic, and is much larger than the crowd that cares about Fox News vs MSNBC.

We need to be having direct conversations with the editors of our LOCAL news outlets, pointing out the garbage they transmit and making them consider alternatives.

I did a quick “back of the envelope” calculation and I figured that Obama paid taxes in the 33% bracket, but Biden paid only 21%. That seems about right for Obama, but that seems awfully low for Biden, considering he had only $4000 in charitable deductions. I dunno, I make a lot less, donated about the same to charity, and paid a lot more taxes than Mr. Patriotic Biden. I wonder who does his taxes?

He gave it all away, I believe, and you’re right, I wonder if he paid taxes on it first. Shouldn’t that be required and his subsequent donations only deducted against other income?
