Press airs grievances to Gibbs By: Mike Allen April 17, 2010 12:06 PM EDT

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs met with a delegation from the White House press corps for 75 minutes on Thursday in an effort to improve frayed relations between the two sides.

Ed Chen, a White House correspondent for Bloomberg News who is president of the White House Correspondents’ Association, said he asked for the meeting “to clear the air because in my 10-plus years at the White House, rarely have I sensed such a level of anger, which is wide and deep, among members over White House practices and attitude toward the press.”

Chen said he feels “very good about the collegial give and take.”

“We had a very good exchange with Robert,” Chen said. “He stayed overtime, and thus was late for his next meeting.”

Gibbs said the meeting in his West Wing office was “comprehensive and productive.”

“I started by thanking the WHCA on behalf of the president and first lady for protecting the privacy of the Obama children,” Gibbs said. “We discussed and made progress n a number of issues important to both.”

Chen recalled that the two sides agreed on “no immediate global solutions,” but said he came away expecting an “improvement in press access.”

Among the issues discussed:

One person in the press said “your mouth is too small and it bugs me.”

Their anger could be a catalyst for terrorist activity. I hope White House security subjects them to a heightened degree of scrutiny.

“I started by thanking the WHCA on behalf of the president and first lady for protecting the privacy of the Obama children,” Gibbs said..”

Especially since the Sarah’s removal from political office put the Palin children farther from reach and left the media scrambling for “human interest” stories

You were the main element that put this ugly regime in power and has relentlessly promoted and protected it, media.

I call BS on the Politico. The most transparent administration in history wouldn’t need such a meeting. Therefore this report is false.

“in my 10-plus years at the White House, rarely have I sensed such a level of anger”

The press should all add a picture of GWB with “Miss me yet?” to their WH press badges. Given the level of hostility exhibited by the press towards GWB, the current level of anger is noteworthy.

This sounds like the press is filling the role of stray dogs begging for a few crumbs from their Master’s table. They were “promised” some new crumbs - O Boy!

The press coprse seems inadequately represented by people of color; I’m thinking that they are just a bunch of racists.

Wow; the Media having a 'tea Party!

(You might think that this media could understand better, the feelings of the 'rest of the citizenry' who are smacked in the head; daily, with Obama arrogance and smugness; and worse, sick 'will to power'.

Maybe this might bring it home, But I doubt it. . .)

To paraphrase Obama, it’s not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to pens or journalism or antipathy to people who aren’t like them. LOL.
