Another explosive device found in Bangalore
TIMES OF INDIA ^ | TNN, Apr 18, 2010, 11.09am IST | N/A

SNIPPET: "BANGALORE: A day after two low-intensity blasts in the city, an explosive device weighing 2kgs was found wrapped in a yellow bag near Mahatma Gandhi statue on MG road."

SNIPPET: "As stands filled on Saturday for the Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers IPL match, two bombs went off at the Chinnaswamy Stadium wounding 12 people and triggering panic. Roughly 20,000 people had packed into the stadium and hundreds more were streaming in when a loud explosion at Gate 12 rocked the arena and rattled nearby buildings. Six policemen were injured when the grill near the wall collapsed on them.

The explosion occurred at 3.15pm. Another one about 20 minutes later compounded the cops' worst fears because the second bomb went off closer to the stadium and near the state police wireless headquarters. The explosives were hidden in the bushes.

Preliminary forensic investigation revealed that the explosive was an ammonium nitro glycerine gelatin stick. It was detonated with a micro-chip fitted timer."

Hardly. Bangalore is a high-tech center in India. My employer has a huge technical center there (their cafeteria is larger than the building where I work) and others do too, including Microsoft.

We can really understand how you feel. We just cancelled a
Thailand trip on the advice of relatives. Still wanting to “get
out of town”, we booked ten days in Rome. Our flight is likely
to be cancelled by the volcano. Should have stuck with Chiang
Mai!!

2 Hurt in Explosion Near Indian Cricket Stadium

Apr 17, 2010 10:07 AM EDT

http://world.foxnews.mobi/quickPage.html?page=23930&external=254285.proteus.fma

NEW DELHI (AP) — An electricity generator blew up Saturday outside a cricket stadium in southern India shortly before a match was about to start, police said, injuring two people and setting off panic among fans.

The Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore is hosting a game between the home team, Bangalore Royal Challengers, and the Mumbai Indians, as part of the popular Indian Premier League tournament.

A police official at the city’s police control room, who requested anonymity because he was not allowed to speak to reporters, says initial reports do not indicate that there was any foul play behind the explosion.

The sound of the blast, which took place as thousands of spectators were entering the stadium, sent nervous crowds running in panic.

Shankar Bidari, the city’s top police official, tells reporters that the match will continue though it might be delayed.

Sports venues in India have faced tight security amid fears that Islamist radical groups may target them.

UPDATE:

Bangalore blasts aimed to create chaos, panic

http://news.rediff.com/slide-show/2010/apr/17/slide-show-1-twin-blasts-near-ipl-stadium-rock-bangalore.htm

A major tragedy was averted at the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore on Saturday when two bombs, which were timed to explode at 8 pm, went off at 3 pm.

A third bomb, which was found later, was defused by the bomb squad of the Karnataka police.

The police also found another bomb near gate number 7 of the stadium, which was timed to explode at 4.30 pm.

Sources confirmed to rediff.com that all three bombs had been timed to explode at 8 pm, when thousands of spectators would have been leaving the stadium after the end of the match.

Two explosions had rocked Bangalore minutes before the Indian Premier League match between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Mumbai Indians at 4 pm on Saturday.

The two bombs, planted at gate number 12 and near the Anil Kumble circle close to the stadium, went off at 3 pm instead. Fourteen people, including three policemen and one security personnel, were injured in the blast. The security guard’s condition is reportedly serious.

Sources point out that if the bombs had exploded at 8 pm, they would have caused chaos and panic among the thousands of spectators, and might have led to a massive stampede.

Immediately after the news of the explosion broke out, the players were asked to return to the dressing room. The police then carried out a second round of anti-sabotage operations.

Did the Press or FR cover the church destroyed by Islamicist bombs last week in the Philippines?

Here in the Philippines they are trying to pooh pooh it, just like they did when the Christian villagers were massacred last year...maybe because it is an election year, and Estrada is running and unlike Gloria, who has orders from Obama to give the Philippines away to make peace, Estrada would rearm the Christian militias...

I just listened to a broadcast that insisted that if Israel would make nice, everyone would love the US...this is not true, because they hate India and the Philippines too, because we are supposed to be Muslim but refused to convert...

Actually that place has no real natural source of hydration. Water shortages and power outages are frequent, during summer.

Yes. Bangalore’s nickname is “The Silicon Valley” of India. Lots of high tech companies there...my DH says the people behind this are just causing trouble to give Bangalore a hard time—for example, this soccer match (and all the rupees it would have brought to Bangalore’s economy) was moved to Mumbai (Bombay). And given the sophistication of the elements of this (and other?) bombs so far, it’s easy to see that there is more to this than the eye can see right now.

Doesn’t make me feel less apprehensive about visiting family there though!! :-(
