UT has to flunk out several thousand freshmen every year because they don't have room for more upper-classmen...or so I've been told.

I don't care what they do---I wouldn't pay for a kid to attend TU.

TU? I’m not sure what your point is. My daughter is in pharmacy school at UT, consistently ranked in the top five pharmacy programs in the nation so I am a little biased. She works her butt off as do all the other pharmacy students. Approximately one out of ten who apply are accepted so it’s no small feat to get in.

More likely it is because at UT has to automatically admit applying Texas students who were in the top 10% of their Texas high school classes. Given the mediocre quality of some high schools, it is not surprising that many freshmen fail. The state has recently lowered the percentage figure for UT admittance to the top 8% of their high school class [Link].
