“I was drunk the day my Mom got out of prison
and I went to pick her up...in the rain
But before I could git to the station in my
pickup truck
She got runned over by a damned ol’ train”

For the record, the song, “You Never Even Called Me By My Name,” from which you quote the lyrics, was written by Steve Goodman, now deceased. Coe recorded it but he even talks about Goodman having written it during the song.
Steve Goodman wrote that ... noted for “City of New Orleans.” I saw him perform at Virginia Tech in 1983, before he died too young.
