Fleeing Drug Violence, Mexicans Pour Into U.S.
NY Times ^ | April 18, 2010 | JAMES C. McKINLEY Jr.

Americans are taking in their Mexican relatives, and the local schools have swelled with traumatized children, many of whom have witnessed gangland violence, school officials say.

Fort Hancock is echoed along the Texas border with Mexico, from Brownsville to El Paso. As the violence among drug gangs continues to spiral out of control in Mexico, more Mexican citizens are seeking refuge in the United States.

The influx of people fleeing the violence, some of whom were involved in drug dealing in Mexico, has disrupted Fort Hancock’s peaceful rhythms.

A few children among the refugees belong to families involved in the drug trade, and rival gang members have threatened them, bringing the specter of gangland killings to the high school...

“Some of the families who are fleeing from Mexico are doing it because they were somehow participating in these acts,” said Jose G. Franco, the school superintendent, “and if you want to get at somebody, you get at their children.”

Many Mexicans in towns along the river have special border-crossing cards, which let them cross for up to 30 days to do business and shop near the border. But some have used the visas to relocate their families temporarily to Fort Hancock and other small towns on the Texas side.

Those who have temporary tourist visas or who can obtain business visas because they have enough money to start businesses in the United States are also moving their families across the border.

In El Paso alone, the police estimate that at least 30,000 Mexicans have moved across the border in the past two years because of the violence in Juárez and the river towns to the southeast. So many people have left El Porvenir and nearby Guadalupe Bravos that the two resemble ghost towns, former residents say.

Oh, baby, you ain't seen nothin' yet!

Obama won't have to struggle with an amnesty, he'll give the entire country and anyone coming through Mexico on their way here refugee status.

.
We should have planted 1,000,000 landmines along the Mexican border starting back in the 80s.

Now....?

It is a serious tactical error for the cartels to run out the locals, because that makes it a lot easier to take out their gunmen. No human shields, not logistical support.

When summer comes in earnest, that part of the border is just going to become unlivable. The cartels are violating a major rule of insurgency.

The article is quite long and mentions one particular mother with 4 children seeking asylum. She talked of how damaged the children are by this war. The refugee students speak no English and are dealing with the trauma of family members killed. outside a primary school in El Porvenir, a man was shot and the killers were said to have cut open the man’s pregnant wife and took the baby. Gunmen were said to have killed a beggar in a wheelchair.

“All the children, the only thing they know how to play is sicarios,” she said, using the Spanish word for hired killers.

They need to launder their drug profits in America.

You are. It’s the ‘humane’ thing to do, so pony up.

Really great learning environment when all the new students don’t speak English and are traumatized or playing ‘sicarios (the Spanish word for hired killers) , isn’t it? If my children had been going through this, I think I’d keep them out of school for a bit, but these refugees are enrolling them the minute they get here.

We need a fence and our military protecting our borders. Why are we protecting the borders of foreign countries, yet not our own!

“Where’s that fence when we need it?”

Indeed. Most of this problem could have been so easily prevented. If the border had been secure all these years, we wouldn’t have 230 foreign drug cartel occupied cities in this country.

I don’t object to giving anyone being persecuted TEMPORARY refugee status. But you just know they will never leave, and while they’re here their babies will be US Citizens.
And their loyalty and political views will still be socialist Mexican.

Yes, Ma’am. And hide from the Mexican military. The criminals know they’re protected here...can’t even ask them if they’re an alien. STOOPID.
