The UK Department of Health recently announced that it would loosen hygiene rules for Muslim and Sikh doctors and nurses. From now on, Muslim female staff will not need to wash their hands before procedures as it compromises their modesty. Instead, they will have the admittedly less sanitary option of wearing disposable plastic over-sleeves.
Acknowledging the danger of microbes and death, a Department of Health spokesman said, The guidance is intended to . . . balance infection control measures with cultural beliefs. But, believe it or not, from a culturist perspective, the death of some patients is not the main cause for concern that this policy elicits.

Sounds like a good deal. How do rednecks get in on it without the ACLU having apoplexy?
This is most ridiculous, religion or not! UK is headed back to the dark ages and the plague will return!!
They never bathe, you want these animals treating you?
Die NOW!
We don’t want to offend anyone just to keep you alive......unless you’re Christian....then we don’t mind offending you....
The guidance is intended to . . . balance infection control measures with cultural beliefs.
Good grief!!
What if my culture believes that everyone is supposed to die by age 40 from a life-threatening infection??
OCD is no basis for medical practice.
If they cannot wash their hands without “embarassing” themselves, then I figure they do not have a working knowledge of human anatomy and would not be someone I want working on me when it comes time to remove all coverings from my naked body.
Sounds no worse than our new ‘DhimmiCare’—for which non-Muslims must pay healthcare tribute, but Muslims are exempt.
Surely, this is sarcasm?
I thought Women weren’t supposed to have jobs in the first place ?
This religion is full of holes, ain’t it ?
and they wipe themselves with what?
The Sikhs are a red herring. No doubt there are some nutcases within that community that want society, hospitals and hygience to conform with their beliefs, but Sikhs in India, the US etc all conform to the medical imperatives extant.
This is stark raving nuts.
Of course, to the jihadis, adherence to dogma and ritual supersedes any Hippocratic oath or patient welfare, care and recovery.
One of the posts to the original article made a great point. This is the same group that fired a Christian nurse for wearing a Cross on a chain for “Sanitary” purposes.
I thought this was true, too until yesterday - but guess what? Looks like the Congress may have even screwed that up - they thought they had inserted a handy little loophole for religious exemptions (cough-bullshi%-cough) but due to their own incompetence - they didn't. Gee, what a surprise.
From Doug Ross.
Now it appears the bill contains another surprise: the "religious exemption" that allows individuals to conscientiously object to joining DemCare was screwed up as the bill is written. Based upon the letter of the law as it was written and passed, there is no religious exemption.
(A) RELIGIOUS CONSCIENCE EXEMPTION- Such term shall not include any individual for any month if such individual has in effect an exemption under section 1311(d)(4)(H) of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act which certifies that such individual is a member of a recognized religious sect or division thereof described in section 1402(g)(1) and an adherent of established tenets or teachings of such sect or division as described in such section.
Problem is, there's no section 1402(g)(1) in the bill. That goes for the certified copy of the bill, not just the one online.
Staffers are now saying that they were referring to section 1402 of the Internal Revenue Code which pertains to religious exemptions - but as the bill is written now? There are no religious exemptions. Hah!
(P.S. The idea that UK Muslim nurses don't have to wash their hands is still disgusting and wrong.)
There are other muslim complaints about medical sanitation (no cleaners with an alcohol component even for external use).
What’s really galling is that many Muslim physicians do NOT complain about hygienic practices, they understand the reasons for them.
I don’t understand why England is bowing to the demands of the fundies.
Ha! Thanks for the update.
Dr. Similweiss should be rolling in his moldering grave.
Is Dhimmicare’s non taxable status under Obama’s new national healthcare reform really true? I didn’t bother to comment until now, because it sounded so clearly un-American and alien to me. Is it true that muslims are not required to pay into the national healthcare strategy?
