N. Korea Could Have their Third Nuclear Test in May or June

2010-04-20 13:33

It is said to be likely that N. Korea could conduct their third nuclear test in May or June.

As prospects dim for 6-party talks due to the sinking of Cheonan, this would further raise tension in Korean Peninsula.

Kim Seung-jae reporting from Beijing

[Report]

According to credible diplomatic sources on N. Korea, it has been secretly preparing for their third nuclear test since last February.

It is their understanding that it would conduct the third nuclear test next month or in June.

They said that the test would show much improvement in technology and level of sophistication, unlike their first and second test.

N. Korea has been getting technical consultation from Russia for the test, according to the sources.

U.S. learned about this development last month and is busy drawing up its responses.

The sources said that U.S. intelligence officials recently visited S. Korea to discuss this matter.

N. Korean senior officials also recently visited Beijing and are having(or have had?) discussions with Chinese counterparts with regard to N. Korea's third nuclear test, according to the sources.

The sources also explained that U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's rather unusual recent remark admitting that N. Korea possesses nukes could be viewed as a measure to head off the test.

I guess Øbama’s letter wasn’t stern enough.

To Chia Head, what qualifies as the stern response would be to blow up their bridge over Yalu, cutting off vital transportation link with China, for example.

Of course, one can do it with clandestine operation just as NK probably did with Cheonan.

I truly think the world needs to come to grips with the reality that it is just a matter of time before we are going to see a nuke detonation on our soil or the soil of a close ally.

Its a fact we need to all accept and prepare for. its coming, maybe tomorrow, maybe next year or in 10 years but it will happen.

So what happened with Chia Pet’s trip to China? I thought his train was spotted at the border awhile back?

It turned out to be a freight train. Who knows? It could have been a decoy train.

It won't surprise me if Chia Head tried to create an excuse to stay home. The Cheonan incident could also be a nice cover in that sense: "Those S. Korean puppets of American imperialists are acting up, so I need to stay home. Hopefully I will come later..." something like that.

Killing two birds with one stone: canceling trip to China and getting even with SK navy.

0bama just needs to send another round of new years greets to the NK communists. Everything will be ok then.

I think Chia Head wants Zero to bow at his portrait every morning in more than 90 degree angle. Then he might be thinking about being generous.:-)

blow up a warship, test a nuke . . . and SK will continue to do nothing so as not to upset the status quo.

appeasement in action

Hosting G-20 summit is a dumb idea. Lee turn SK into a deeper hole. It has been kind of a hostage situation anyway, and he made it worse with this move.

Korean TV is showing video of some large scale military exercises in NK. Lots of tanks and artillery action.

I forgot about that . . . makes it even less likely that Lee is going to take any decisive action lest he scare away G-20 summit participants

The next time the Norks conduct a nuclear test, I want it to go horribly wrong, so the Dear Leader can go irate and imprison, or execute his nuclear scientists for their incompetence.
