N. Korea Could Have their Third Nuclear Test in May or June

2010-04-20 13:33

It is said to be likely that N. Korea could conduct their third nuclear test in May or June.

As prospects dim for 6-party talks due to the sinking of Cheonan, this would further raise tension in Korean Peninsula.

Kim Seung-jae reporting from Beijing

[Report]

According to credible diplomatic sources on N. Korea, it has been secretly preparing for their third nuclear test since last February.

It is their understanding that it would conduct the third nuclear test next month or in June.

They said that the test would show much improvement in technology and level of sophistication, unlike their first and second test.

N. Korea has been getting technical consultation from Russia for the test, according to the sources.

U.S. learned about this development last month and is busy drawing up its responses.

The sources said that U.S. intelligence officials recently visited S. Korea to discuss this matter.

N. Korean senior officials also recently visited Beijing and are having(or have had?) discussions with Chinese counterparts with regard to N. Korea's third nuclear test, according to the sources.

The sources also explained that U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's rather unusual recent remark admitting that N. Korea possesses nukes could be viewed as a measure to head off the test.

Unfortunately, the man in the photograph turned out to be not Kim Jong-il’s third son, the so-called successor. According to SK reports, he is a manager at a N. Korean steel factory.
