House Hispanic leaders ask Obama to block Arizona bill

WASHINGTON — Hispanic leaders in the House of Representatives called Tuesday for President Barack Obama Tuesday to act against Arizona's anti-illegal immigration legislation and to throw his weight behind a comprehensive immigration overhaul.

Reps. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., and Raul Grijalva, D-Ariz., demanded a halt to the bill that passed Arizona's Senate Monday. The state's House of Representatives passed it last week. If Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signs it into law, the bill would require immigrants to carry alien registration cards with them at all times and police to check people's immigration status whenever there's "reasonable suspicion" that they are in the country illegally.

Grijalva and Gutierrez said that if Brewer, a Republican, signs the bill into law, the Obama administration should step in to stop it.

"The president of the United States should simply say, 'On the issue of immigration, the Constitution is clear, my power is clear — I'm going to regulate immigration in the United States from a federal level,'" Gutierrez said.

Thomas Saenz, president of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund who appeared with the congressmen at a news conference, said that the Department of Homeland Security could end agreements that allow Arizona law enforcement to police immigration laws or the Justice Department could challenge the initiative as a violation of civil rights law.

One of many reasons that Duncan Hunter has my eternal respect.

Mine too....Hunter has always been on the side of America and Americans on this issue...and probably has done the most so far to stem Illegal Alienism (border fence)

"Push coming to shove. Maybe AZ can ask the fraud for his BC? "

Seems only right. If I by a bottle of wine at the grocery I have to show my ID EVERY SINGLE TIME...so if Al-oblamo wants anything important from the states, it should require at least a birth certificate to get it...don't ya think?

Arizona’s governor needs to sign the legislation immediately(provided she hasn’t already done so).

ILLEGAL ALIENS need to take their drugs, take their crime, take themselves out of our country, back to theirs and if they won’t do it on their own, then by God, they’re going to force our authorities to do it for them.

Unemployment in our country is another reason, but we don’t need “reasons” other than they’re here ILLEGALLY.

Well, if you remember the old Boris Karloff movie, the monster almost killed his creator. It’s got it’s fingers on the Dr.’s throat as we speak.

Last time I checked, the House was supposed to represent the will of the people, but between immigration and the healthcare debacle, I fail to see how these guys represent anything else except themselves and those like them with an overwhelming need for power and to undermine the great nation we live in.

We don’t have to be ‘so giving.’ It’s idiocy and dangerous.

All by himself?? Wow. The Constitution sure has changed this year.

I’m watching the John Adams series. In response to Dickenson and the Pennsylvanians, the New Yorkers and South Carolinians who called for conciliation and further negotiations, Adams said,
“We’re a republic and free men, but a nation of laws, not men.” There was no turning back then or now.
Again `Tories’ are calling to a tyrant and again, I don’t think we will submit to tyranny, even if it is, as they say, “for the greater good.”
Also in the old movie, the townspeople drove both the good doctor and monster to a windmill and they burned to death (or in `Frank’s Jr.’s case, re-death).

Are these people representatives from some foreign country?

From the sound of it, their district map got gerrymandered all the way into Mexico.

That is definately the case with my rep, Grijalva.

I'm stuck with Karl Marx, in Pancho Villa's body, not representing anyone who speaks English.
