Barack Obama woos Scott Brown on immigration

President Barack Obama called Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) on Tuesday to gauge his support for a comprehensive immigration reform bill, a sign the White House is serious about pushing the issue in Congress this year.

Obama’s outreach to Brown is part of a quickly hatched, coordinated effort with congressional leaders to thrust the volatile immigration debate back to the front burner. At a joint House and Senate leadership meeting late Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid promised to House leaders that he would put an immigration bill on the floor this year—and he secured a commitment from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that the House will vote on immigration reform, according to a Democratic leadership source with knowledge of the meeting.

The president called Brown from Air Force One, White House spokesman Nick Shapiro said. But Brown didn’t signal any willingness to dive into immigration reform.

“Sen. Brown told the president that he would review any legislation if it came before the Senate, but he believes that the immediate focus should be on fixing the economy and creating jobs,” Brown spokeswoman Gail Gitcho said.

Just stealing the jobs Americans used to have, that’s a plan that will work well with the American people. 20% unemployment clears the mind.

Obama-commie is getting desperate.

If Obama succeeds in co-opting Scott Brown (and Brown looks like someone who is easily turned, witness his love affair with John Kerry), it will take the wind out of the right’s sails.

People, stop worrying about Hispanics: what Obama wants is more LEGAL Muslims. We need to stop this.

Deport illegals (such as Obama’s aunt, still living on welfare in the US), get criminal illegals out immediately and make them the problem of their home countries...but DO NOT accept the idea of legally importing more Muslim Africans, Middle Easterners or Europeans (Muslims with EU citizenship), because this is Obama’s goal.

Sounds like Zero needs just one more Republican to get the votes in the Senate. Grahamnesty is already a lock.

And going after Brown also is a hit back at the right and Tea Party who supported Brown.

If Brown falls for this, and amnesty passes, we are looking at a second civil war in this country.

What the hey? in an election year they are going to tackle issues like this? Ether the fix is in or they have given up all hope on the election in November. This is a very dangerous Congress.

It's also the ultimate reach-around for the ultimate amnesty proponent...John McCain!

No it won't. The Dems are playing for keeps now and have majorities in Congress. This is the railroad spike that may do in America.

I fear that train has left the station.

“Sen. Brown told the president that he would review any legislation if it came before the Senate, but he believes that the immediate focus should be on fixing the economy and creating jobs,” Brown spokeswoman Gail Gitcho said.

Comments that reveal that the one speaking them is a statist to the core.

You "fix" the economy and create jobs, Senator, by getting your stinking socialist hands off things that aren't in your Constitutional jurisdiction.

Amazing that some, including a few FReepers were touting Brown for a Presidential run in 2012. Bet that's not the case now.
