...A black guy walks into a tea party, and a white lady says to him, "You know, we don't get many African-Americans in here." The black guy replies, "And at these prices, it's no wonder!"
The joke, at least as we originally heard it, involves a kangaroo and a bartender. The news report, brought to our attention by the fellows at NewsBusters.org, involved NBC reporter Kelly O'Donnell and tea-party activist Darryl Postell. O'Donnell approached Postell at a Washington rally, and hilarity ensued...
Imagine Kelly O'Donnell questioning a black man in a largely white company or university or country club or suburb the way she interrogated Darryl Postell. She would come off as clueless and prejudiced--as, come to think of it, she does.
The political left claims to love racial diversity, but it bitterly opposes such diversity on the political right. This is an obvious matter of political self-interest: Since 1964, blacks have voted overwhelmingly Democratic. If Republicans were able to attract black votes, the result would be catastrophic for the Democratic Party. Even in 2008, the Democrats' best presidential year since '64, if the black vote had been evenly split between the parties (and holding the nonblack vote constant), Barack Obama would have gotten about 48% of the vote and John McCain would be president.
To keep blacks voting Democratic, it is necessary for the party and its supporters to keep alive the idea that racism is prevalent in America and to portray the Republican Party (as well as independent challengers to the Democrats, such as the tea-party movement) as racist. The election of Barack Obama made nonsense of the idea that America remains a racist country and thereby necessitated an intensifying of attacks on the opposition as racist.

HHhhmmnn. Maybe so.
No, I don’t think so. O’Reilly is a mostly undercover leftie. Every now and then he lets the mask slip. He knows perfectly well what Obama is.
Every bodyknows the Democrats use racism. Its a just matter of privledge for the Democrats. They can use their bias without fear of condemnation. OReilly is merely afraid that he is liable to be sliced up like a stick of bologna and have his turnip truck taken away .
He is the one “acting stupidly”, possibly in need of beer summit.
Who can forget the beer summit? White cop arrests black man...and then 0bama acts stupidly.
It’s not even real racism they need and want, it’s just the perception that we are still a racist nation and living in a pre 1960s era world.
I don’t know if it would ever happen but I would give anything to see a GOP presidential candidate take on this issue and tell the blunt truth to Americans. Try to reach black voters by pointing out the facts of how they are being used and exploited by Democrats and that conservative principles support equality and opportunity for all. Conservatism is the true color blind ideology. It would not win over a majority of African American voters but if they could get a small number of open minded people to listen, it would be a start.
Oh, really gets it right sometimes and he isn’t as bad as some on FR say but he IS a classic example of someone who has an inflated opinion of himself. Back in the boonies in ‘55 he would have been described thusly, “He ain’t neerbout as smart as he thanks he is”.
Agreed! Best of the Web Today is a must read every day. Taranto’s sense of humor is fantastic!
Taranto is solidly on the right. Not sure how the rest of the WSJ runs, but he’s definitely on the correct side.
O’Reilly has a few things about which he’s not quite as informed as he thinks he is. But I’ll always remember him as the first anchor I ever saw on a television news show contradict the liberal lies to their faces.
