"Transfats are lethal over time.

Time itself is lethal. Do we put a government label on that? Better yet walking in front of a moving bus is bad for your health. Let's put a label on the front of the bus to let us know that.

There’s a notion of a reasonable person. If we have roads and highways and dangerous moving objects, then we design the structures so that people can reasonably be safe yet free.

My philosophy is that government is free to educate me and make me aware but not to restrict me or enslave me unless it impinges on the freedom of others.

Transfat education is Ok. My choice to eat them or not does not impinge on the health and freedom of others, so they should not be banned.

Same with salt. Educate me, tell me the opinions, let me decide for myself. But my ingestion of salt has no bearing on the health and safety of others.

So government can educate and label. Labels are cheap. If a tank contains explosive or flammable material, yeah I want to know that and I believe there should be a law that requires such things be marked or labeled.

I don’t have a problem with labeling, I have a problem with overreaching.

Salt content, amount and type with warnings is fair game for labels, but not for banning.

As for your examples, they are silly. Time is not an object but we have watches and timepieces to remind us that it is valuable. Walking in front of a bus, we have crosswalk signals. Those objects are in effect labels. Whatever point your examples were trying to make seems to have gotten lost. Are you saying we should not have crosswalk signals?
