Five Reasons Why American Conservatives Should be Worried about Nick Clegg
NRO ^ | 04/21/10 | Nile Gardiner

Thursday night will see the second of three U.S.-style televised debates between the leading candidates in the upcoming British general election: Gordon Brown, David Cameron, and Nick Clegg. The focus this time will be on foreign policy, making the debate of direct relevance to U.S. viewers, who will be able to watch live on C-Span.

As Tim Montgomerie noted in an excellent earlier post, Nick Clegg, the leader of the Liberal Democrats, was widely judged to have won the last debate, on domestic-policy issues (though he failed to offer any real policy solutions), and his party has leapfrogged the ruling Labour Party into second place in the polls behind the Conservatives. Clegg is largely unknown outside of the U.K., but if his party does well on Election Day, he could hold the balance of power in Westminster, and the Liberals could form part of a coalition government if no single party has a ruling majority. This would potentially give Clegg an important say in British foreign policy.

1. Clegg’s outlook is anti-American.

2. Clegg is not an Atlanticist.

-snip-

3. Clegg does not believe in a nuclear deterrent.

4. Clegg is a fervent supranationalist.

-snip-

5. Clegg harbors strong anti-Israeli views.

This is horrible news for the UK, and the US and it underscores what a complete and utter losers Cameron is. If the Tories had a real conservative to draw bold distinctions between themselves and Labour, they wouldn't be in this mess.

Although I’m certainly no expert on the guy but I *have* seen him often on C-SPAN’s Sunday night coverage of British politics. He looks (and sounds) for all the world like an empty suit little punk who,I’ll wager has *lots* in common with our very own Community-Organizer-In-Chief.

"He sounds an awful lot like Obama."

He is. And, his rising popularity can be blamed on the same thing that accounts for Obama's popularity - multiculturalism. It's the scourge of traditional western democracies. Our chickens really are coming home to roost.

Clegg is "clean" and "articulate".

From what I can tell, absolutely nothing. They both hate the US and the UK, equally. I think they may also have the same contemptuous feelings towards the Queen, as well. Maybe Clegg is part Mau Mau, too.

Clegg is also very good looking and passionate in his delivery (far better that zero) Hate to sound shallow...but remember when Blair first came about? He was young and “dashing” and the ladies loved him.

WOMEN... CLEGG IS A NEANDERTHAL AND HAS MORE HAIR ON HIS BACK THAN YOU HAVE ON YOUR HEAD..SO PULL YOUR HEADS OUT OF YOUR A$$ES AND STOP LOOKING AT HIS PRETTY FACE.

Good news for the Tories though. UK unemployement numbers released today at an ALL TIME HIGH. The left wing news media there (yup, it’s happening there too) is trying to make Clegg out to be a God or whatever...but I think the Tories have a chance to gain control. Alot of unhappy folks on the other side of the pond!

The Liberal Party has had some pretty leftwing slimeballs as leaders, going back years. I still remember Jeremy Thorpe, ex-leader ff the Liberal Party (1967 to 1976), and one of the sleaziest politicians I have ever come across in my life.

“Persistent rumours about Thorpe's sexuality dogged his political career. Norman Scott, a former male model, met Thorpe in 1961 while working as a stable lad. He later claimed that he and Thorpe had a homosexual relationship between 1961 and 1963, when homosexual acts were still illegal in Britain. Scott's airing of these claims led to an inquiry within the Liberal Party in 1971, which exonerated Thorpe. Scott, however, continued to make the allegations.

In October 1975, Scott was walking on Exmoor with a Great Dane bitch (called “Rinka”), which had been lent to him by a friend for protection. Scott was confronted by Andrew “Gino” Newton, a former airline pilot, who was armed with a gun. Newton shot and killed the dog, then pointed the gun at Scott, but it apparently failed to go off. Newton was convicted of the offence in March 1976.

During his court appearance, Scott repeated his claims of a relationship with Thorpe, and alleged that Thorpe had threatened to kill him if he spoke about their affair. Scott also sold letters to the press which he claimed to be love letters from Thorpe. One of these included the memorable line “Bunnies can and will go to France”, which supposedly showed Thorpe using his ‘pet-name’ for Scott in connection with a promise to find Scott a well-paid job in France.

The scandal forced Thorpe to resign as Liberal Party leader on 9 May 1976. He was replaced temporarily by his predecessor Jo Grimond and then permanently by David Steel.

Andrew Newton was released from prison in April 1977, and then revived the scandal by claiming that he had been hired to kill Norman Scott. On 4 August 1978, Thorpe was accused along with David Holmes (deputy Treasurer of the Liberal Party), George Deakin (a night club owner) and businessman John Le Mesurier (not the actor or the athletics coach) of conspiracy to murder. Thorpe was also separately accused of inciting Holmes to murder Scott.

The trial was scheduled to take place a week before the general election of 1979, but Thorpe obtained a fortnight's delay to fight the election. However, the scandal had become too much, and Thorpe was defeated”

6. Clegg is as virulently stupid as the idiot occupying the oval office.

it is horrible and i hope brits don’t vote for him. i think the
political style book found in taxi, that gave away some of
libdems lies and strategies will help tamp down clegg’s surge.

What difference will it make a hundred years from now? Britain and the rest of Europe will be Muslim. Europe has a negative birth rate(1.4 babies per family) and the Muslims have over 8.0 babies per family. Do the math. France will be the first nation to become part of the Islamic empire with Britain closely following.

"Muslims have over 8.0 babies per family"

Wow. 8 babies per? That's amazing.

In a related note, I read just a few weeks ago that for the first time in the history of the country more minority babies were born than Caucasian babies. I suspect in 30-50 years, this country too will be unrecognizable. If minorities voted more equally amongst the GOP and DNC, I really couldn't care less who's birthrate is highest. But, with 95% supporting Obama, I'm terrified.

Well this is what you get when you have a population so utterly depended upon the socialist government welfare state. Getting someone off the self-destructive drug of socialist dependency is no easy thing, particularly when they are willing to defend their habit with criminal force.

Generally you need to force on protecting yourself and and let them hit rock bottom on their own.

We can’t save the United Kingdom, their socialist illness is too advance.
