“sooooo...if earthquakes are caused by slutty women...what causes volcanoes to erupt???”

Ummmm....Europe screwing Iceland in the financial meltdown Iceland had and is still in the middle of. Looks like the Euro-peons are feeling the payback.

You are now officially my favorite poster on this site, I wish more people would look into what the EU bully is doing to my tiny country. It must be thorn in their flesh to have independent countries in their midsts.

But seriously folks, you need to start breathing through your noses. Katla is not Lakagígar (Laki is actually not a mountain, and the eruption there was, hopefully, a one off event), and like someone posted here previosly Katla has erupted more often than Eyjafjalla-glacier. It will have some impact sure, but as we have been waiting for it for a while, it being over with will be a relief.

You guys have to remember that my country is big, and these places are not so heavily populated, and we have a very thorough surweilance system of our volcanoes. The greatest danger is when they start, that nobody is too close, but after they have started, even though they will spew some ash over the southern glacier rivers (not much farming in its immediate vicinity) and the northern highlands, I doubt it will kill or maim anyone, given that nobody is actually on top of it when it erupts, or in the flood basin when the flood starts, but we will have ample time to clear it of any people. There has not been any signs measured by scientists that Katla is erupting, or will soon, and although we have 3 or 4 instances of Eyjafjalla-glacier erupting in our 1000 year history in this land, and Katla following within 2 years, people won´t have to worry to much about their safety. In my not so long live I have experienced too numerous eruptions to remember how many, and although Katla probably will be the biggest yeat, there is no cause for overreaction.

As I mentioned once before there is a town of 1000 that lies close to it, but it probably won´t be flooded, it lies in such a place it has never been previously, although the people there are aware of the danger. In fact it will be saved because a natural barrier, Kötlutangi, that has protected the town from the sea, has slowly been chipped away so the sea is threatening the town. The mud coming from the eruption will thus add land to the town giving it another hundred years of life ;).

Despite what I said in the beginning, the closure of the airports is not our fault or my countries, but what was most likely an overreaction of the Europeans.

So coming to Iceland is not in any way dangerous, and our international airports, will always be open, if not the biggest one in Keflavík (rarely downwind from the volcanoes), then the others in other parts of the country.

Our currency is cheap these days so visiting an “happening” place is a bargain these days. I wish you all a happy summer, as today is our oldest holiday, when we celebrate the first day of summer according to the old viking age calender, best wishes,

Leifur
