The Media's Golf Double Standard (Obama golf addiction)
The Daily Beast ^ | 04.22.2010 | Mark McKinnon

Posted on 04/21/2010 11:18:17 PM PDT by OldDeckHand

The president has gone golfing more than he’s met the press. Had Bush tried that, he’d have been clubbed by the media. Mark McKinnon on Washington’s 18-hole double standard.

News flash: President Obama hasn’t held a formal press conference in almost a year (274 days and counting) yet has golfed 32 times since he was elected—eight more times than President Bush did during his entire presidency.

Now personally, I think the president should golf every day and never have a press conference. I want the leader of the free world to be as stress-free as possible. And if golf helps fade the psychic heat from the job, by all means tee it up often, Mr. President. Sadly, press conferences have turned into not much more that vanity exhibitions for White House reporters who preen and exhort in front of the cameras—not to convey needed news to the public, but to make themselves seem important.

Obama was criticized by foreign press recently when he went golfing. But there was not a critical peep from the American press.

Does anyone really think that Obama has been hiding from the press? Obama has more press exposure than any president ever—by a long shot. He and his team have just figured out clever ways to communicate by going around the White House press corps, whose members are about as busy as the Maytag repairman these days. They’ve become glorified babysitters.

The comments at the site are ridiculous. Some of these people have suffered a total break with reality. The media coverage of Obama could only be fairly described as sycophantic.

I wonder if Obama played a round the day we buried President Reagan?

The Press assumes the position every time Obama is in the room.

He probably watches NASCAR on Sunday afternoon and honkey in the evening.

I wonder who his favorite driver is and what honkey team he roots for ?

(Are one of you REALLY gonna' jump all over me for the 'honkey' reference? ... sheesh)

Some would see this as him being a bad president. But I think that not only should he golf every day but the entire Congress and senate should also.

Maybe that will get them to stop passing these insane bills. In fact I think that many of the administrations department heads and political appointees should do the same. It will help keep them out of our hair.

The author skirts around the fact that the media - so called - are nothing more than a gang of shills for the Democrats.

Shrills or is it something more?

Most everyone with an IQ even approaching room temperature realizes Obama’s agenda is aimed at destroying America as we know it. Since it is obvious Congress and the Senate has traitors who have sold out America, could the press also have been bought?

You realize they only have to buy a few, it’s like one rotten apple in a barrel will soon ruin all the apples, so is it with America with the scum we call liberals (or progessives or whatever term they use). You only need a few traitors to lead the useful idiots.

Yes, I am. As a typical white person, I'm quite sure Barry prefers the term cracker to honkeys. Honkeys is way to seventies for him.

Ahhhh ... butcha' missed the pun ... it's the ho(n)key TEAM I want to know is his favorite.

My feeble attempt at racist humor was directed to his many golf outings (how many star chambers play golf, eh .. ?) .. a traditonally white game ... so I asked about his favorite NASCAR driver and ho(n)key team.

Or am I too numb to pick up that you DID get the joke?

(older age is bliss or tragic ... haven't figgered it out yet.)

"riffing?"

Sorry, I'm a child of the 60's. My adult children frequently remind me how patently "un-cool" I am.

That’s easy ... just publically embarrass them ... when they “inform” you of something, say just loudly enough .. “I’m hip”
