Better way to get oil is to drill on land....
But, yet, the vast amounts of possible oil that can be drilled on land is locked up....

What causes a drill rig to explode?

I have a coworker who used to work on deep sea rigs. Matter of fact, one of his nephews is one still missing and feared dead on this rig. He was on the drilling floor when it blew.

He said the rig exploded at the most vulnerable time. The crew was supposedly pumping water and drilling mud down the casing. The gas pressure in the well probably forced the mud back up. All it needed was one spark to ignite.

Thank you. So they can blow up by the nature of what they’re doing and not by terrorism or sabotage.

Considering that in its raw form natural gas is odorless, colorless, and tasteless it’s amazing this doesn’t happen more often.
