BUCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA. -- He emerges from the woods, a vision in wool. His walking stick leads and his black boots follow. Underneath a tricorn hat, his white hair flows into a powder bag and rests on the shoulders of his frock coat. His waistcoat is navy, his britches yellow, his nose Roman, his bearing presidential. From their sagging camp chairs next to scuffed coolers -- somewhere off Route 610, down a dirt road that coils into the sticks, past the sign that reads "END STATE MAINTENANCE" -- his constituents watch him approach. Here, on a hot stretch of acreage converted into a 500-yard firing range, the father of our country meets his flock.

The Post covers an Appleseed event in VA. The reporter attended the event and actually shot well enough (with a scope) to earn a Rifleman patch. His coverage is not as bad as I would have expected from a Post reporter.

I am surprised to see this in the compost as well. I can't say enough good things about Appleseed.

The comments to the article scare me to death, though. I suppose I should be used to the unhinged left by now, but the degree of hate and animosity expressed based on this innocuous article is breathtaking.

Good article.

It's addictive, this collective pursuit of precision.

And possibly a new convert. ;-)

Its a reasonably good article, surprising for WaPo. But I will give you a run down of the 30 odd comments from the story’s commentary section. Pretty much 50-50. Typical anti gun comments contain - “Hitler Youth Training Camp”, “Homicidal Maniacs”, “Learning to use guns the same way whites stole the land from Native Americans and enslave Blacks”, “Loons looking to save a vision of a country they already lost”. I’m not saying that, just what the idiots are saying.

The goal is to grow until the whole country a) remembers where it came from, and b) is qualified to safely handle a rifle and shoot a human-head-sized target at 500 yards.

Interesting word choice. I stopped reading there.
