“Wow. One wonders if this will seal the long-term fate of the Arizona GOP?? Will this turn Hispanics against them for generations, and therefore decimate their electoral viability in the future? Or is that a Democrat talking point. Honest answers only, please.”
The explosion of the hispanic population is a real problem for the party in the long term. Near term it isn’t an issue but all you have to do to see the threat is to go to an elementary school in many parts of the US. Near me in North Carolina its shocking to see the percentage of young children in schools who are hispanic. Their parents may not be legal but many of them are and it won’t be that long before they are voting and having 500 children of their own. We all know that, as things stand now, they will lean towards the party that promises them the most freebies.
I was in Phoenix a few weeks ago. The amount of spanish signage is impossible to ignore. I'm not talking about the occasional billboard or advertising. I'm talking school banners and marquees, apartment rental offices. A middle school near my old house in Glendale appears to be Spanish only now.
Watching the news earlier after the Gov's press conference, there was a large crowd being used as the the reporters backdrop. All appeared to be Latino High Schoolers.
