Despite holding the position as one of the worlds biggest economies, China seems unwilling to shed its reputation for producing cheap replicas. Yahoo StumbleUpon Google Live Technorati del.icio.us Digg Reddit Mixx Propeller
And one of their more ambitious copycat efforts may put a strain on Russia-China relations.
This Chinese plane is simply a Russian design stuffed with local electronics, says Maksim Pyadushkin from the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technology about the Chinese J11B jets resemblance to the Russian Su-27. It's a knock-off.

Every major product, particularly electronics, the Chi-Coms get a sample, reverse engineer it, then build their own, almost always much inferior. That is their norm. Just look at eBay and all the knock-offs of every major personal electronic item. Everything from iPod clones, to other personal electronics - they are everywhere and usually very cheap (shipped to your door in a few weeks).
But here is the kicker - while we hear a few scattered complaints of copyright and other violations, the world is relatively quiet - and even more odd - corporations continue to offshore/outsource these things to Chinese factories to be built, giving them free access to the technology and design - continuing the cycle.
California is pursuing high-speed rail - and the leading source is China - who basically copied their technology from Japan. Japan is screaming foul.
And of course, we here at FR are all too familiar with the Clinton Regime’s technology deal with China - giving them missile technology in exchange for campaign support (funny how the impeachment process was over lies under oath - while completely ignoring this flagrant and obvious violation of much more serious laws).
So now the Ruskies are facing the same situation - they give the Chi-Coms an evaluation unit or two - and then get upset when the same Commies then clone your technology...
Can they also produce one with a GUCCI label?
