Grijalva rally draws about 250 critical of Ariz. immigration law

About 250 people gathered this morning in the parking lot at Rep. Raúl Grijalva's Tucson office to rally against Arizona's new immigration law.

Rev. John Fife, retired pastor of Southside Presbyterian Church and a founder of the sanctuary movement, was one of about seven speakers scheduled at the rally. Fife urged those in the crowd to have the courage to stand up to ‘this racist law.'

The law signed by Gov. Jan Brewer Friday gives police broad ability to enforce immigration laws. It's been called the toughest law in the nation to combat illegal immigration.

Grijalva has been an outspoken critic of the measure, drawing significant criticism for his call on a boycott of Arizona. On Friday he closed his office early after staffers said they received several threatening phone calls.

The morning rally is the latest in a series of rallies and marches this week in Tucson and Phoenix.

Adelita Grijalva, a TUSD board member and daughter of Rep. Grijalva, called the law unfair. She also said that the American Immigration Lawyers Association canceled its planned convention in Scottsdale.

They should publish a pamphlet, “How to shoot yourself in the foot in three easy steps.”

The squatter support squad showed up at Gov. Brewer’s home before she signed this bill. Maybe Rep. Raúl Grijalva needs a visit.

Candlelight vigil held at Governor Jan Brewer’s home to protest tough immigration bill

[snip]Protesters held signs, linked arms for prayers and sang “This Land Is Your Land” to protest the bill they say could increase racial profiling in Arizona.

“This is something that (if passed) affects the entire community and anybody with brown skin,” said protestor Alejandra Gomez, a Phoenix resident.
“I’m an illegal Guatemalan; I want a chance for hope and to be free like everybody else,” he said.

Oh, yeah, I forgot about that...wonder how he’d like it if people showed up at his house like they did the Governor...or Jim Gilchrist a few years ago..remember that...they even harassed his neighbors.

Fairness, rather than the Rule of Law, is BO’s M.O. Damn the Constitutionality, it’s only fair that I become Pres—ent. This whole scenario has been planned for a long, long time.

How can this law be ‘racist’ when Hispanic isn’t a race (it is an ethnicity). Mexican isn’t a race, it is a nationality. Therefore, all these claims of racial profiling are specious at best, and fraudulent to boot!
