“If a cop stops me for running a stop sign, does that mean he demand proof of citizenship for me and everyone in my car?”

I think for the driver, that is a reasonable expectation. We MUST insist that drivers are valid drivers, at least on the roads. We cannot allow illegal aliens to be driving without valid licenses, and they shouldnt be getting licenses - right? ... so non-enforcement leads to absurdities. If you cant have them obey immigration law, how can you expect them to obey traffic law?

“Just how do you propose we enforce the law” ... that’s the point, isn’t it. we have a law, but without local law enforcement and the million eyes and ears they bring, it is impossible to enforce.

I think the civil rights/convenience concerns are addressed by making sure request are only done based on reasonable suspicion / other violation law enforcement actions, and not ‘fishing expedition’ demands for papers.

Good point.

Just how wide a net do people think I.C.E. can cast? They make high profile raids at big factories, which gets news coverage, but no intelligent person believes for a moment that they're making a dent in illegal immigration on the whole. There simply aren't enough of them to do so.

It all comes back to the fact that our government is tossing pennies at a problem that requires dollars to fix. It's about making a real estimation of effort to resolve the problem.

It's apparent to me that the oligarchy in Washington doesn't want this problem fixed, otherwise, they would have spent what they needed to build the border fence, identify and deport existing illegals, cut off all aid to illegal aliens, and done something to streamline and speed up the legal immigration process.

By flatly refusing to do the job that the majority of Americans want them to do, they've forced the individual states to do what they can to fix the problem themselves.

It's come down to one thing -- the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of our government are in a state of abject TREASON to The People.

We gotta fire them all, folks.
