WILL HE BE OBAMAS ACHILLES HEEL?
Attorneys for former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich submitted a motion to the court on April 22, 2010 to issue a subpoena (ad testificandum) to obtain Barack Obamas testimony at his corruption trial scheduled to begin in June. Parts of the document have been redacted, presumably with the information that has been leaked. Not only is Blagojevich pressing for Obama to testify at the trial, but he also wants to force the release of any and all reports generated during any and all interviews [prosecutors] had with Barack Obama.
In early December 2008, Blagojevich was arrested on criminal charges which included the attempted sale of the Senate seat vacated by Obama as well as conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud and bribery. The federal indictment against Blagojevich and his former chief of staff, John Harris, can be found here.
A footnote at the bottom of the first page of the subpoena of April 22, 2010 indicates that Blagojevichs defense team preferred to have all sealed information made available to the public but acknowledges that portions that contain sealed information provided by the government have been redacted.
However, James B. Zagel, the presiding judge, scheduled an emergency evening meeting in his chambers on April 22, 2010 to ask attorneys to explain how redacted information showed up in a released defense filing. According to the judge, that information was to have remained sealed.
Blagojevichs attorneys are requesting that Obama provide testimony because he is a witness necessary to Rod Blagojevichs Constitutional right to a fair trial (p. 10).
An unredacted version of the subpoena can be found here which shows a total of 15 redactions.
The redacted information covered several issues and begs answers to many questions, among them:
1. Did Obama lie about his conversations

Didn’t Blago say a long time ago if he goes down he takes others with him? Seems to me I remember him saying that somewhere. Help...anyone?
.....
When a numbskull blames a knucklehead, who do you believe?
I would assume that is why he is still alive, he has info in safe keeping.
If I were blago I would go to the doctor and have a full physical and post those results on a web site. I would not go to any private meetings at night along a stretch of highway that has construction signs. I would not take any small planes anywhere. I would not meet with anyone that knows the clintons.
When a numbskull blames a knucklehead, who do you believe? If the nucklehead is the president, I'm going with the numbskull here.
It seemed like the Chicago-Obama machine went to great lengths to villify Blago when the story broke.
I remember hearing that also. I think the only reason he still lives is he has dirt on dumbo hidden. They will fight hard and dirty against Blago.
Even if they subpoena dumbo he’ll duck the court.
That boy’s alive and kicking.
Take him down, Rod.
Wasn't it the court itself that screwed up by not deleting previous versions (the unredacted original) of a the computer file they released?
If that's the case, it's hard to blame the attorneys...:^)

Sellout: the Inside Story of President Clinton's Impeachment
From Amazon.com about the author:
David Schippers, the chief investigative counsel for the Clinton impeachment, wants to be sure Americans know just who contributed to the debacle and how. A trial attorney and a Democrat, Schippers was hired by Republican congressman Henry Hyde to lead an oversight investigation of the Justice Department, then was redirected to handle the impeachment. The quintessential honest man, Schippers was shocked, not so much by Clinton's actions (which he calls a far-reaching conspiracy to obstruct justice with perjury, lies, and witness tampering), but by Republican and Democratic politicians who sold out the impeachment process.
From what I’ve read, since Obama talked to the FBI, Blago has a right to subpoena him and have him testify. So what happens if Obama blows off the subpoena? Bet the judge dismisses the charges.
Yep. I don’t think Blago is a stupid man. I think he has been in this arena long enough to know how the game is played and probably has lots of things in his magic bag of tricks.
