Angry outbursts over agreement allowing Russian Navy to stay.Politicians pelted Ukrainian lawmakers with a smoke bomb and eggs as the parliament approved an agreement that will keep the Russian navy based in the Crimean Peninsula.
Chamber speaker Volodymyr Litvyn was forced to take shelter under his umbrella as he was hit by eggs after deputies from newly elected President Viktor Yanukovich's coalition approved the extension to the Russian Black Sea Fleet's base in Crimea.
Ukrainian nationalists, led by former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and former President Viktor Yushchenko, regard the base as a betrayal of Ukraine's national interests. They wanted to remove it when the existing lease runs out in 2017.
But parliament ratified the lease extension by 236 votes - 10 more than the minimum required for it to pass.
Mr Yanukovich agreed the navy base deal with Russian leader Dmitry Medvedev on April 21 in exchange for a 30 percent cut in the price of Russian gas to Ukraine - a boon to Kiev's struggling economy More

Joe Wilson yelling out "You lie!" is immediately admonished by McCain calling for Wilson to immediately apologize. ..."out of respect, you would never have an outburst like that and if it ever.."
Can you imagine if something like this ever happened in Congress? I mean...First of all, Pelosi would cry...cable and television ratings would skyrocket. Talk radio hosts would have a field day.
Such events just taken in stride by Ukrainian lawmakers.
Yushenko and Tomoshenko had better watch their backs, as the KGB is going to go after them.
This is being civilized? What a model.

We can expect more European nations to buckle under as Russia exerts its control over fuel.
PING!!!
Of course they've already tried before...
Yushchenko: Russia blocking poisoning probe
By Bonnie Malkin and agencies, September 12, 2007
Mr Yushchenko before and after the poisoning
"Mr Yushchenko, a pro-European politician who wanted to bring his country out of Russia's shadow, fell seriously ill on September 6, 2004 as he was competing in presidential elections against a pro-Moscow candidate, Viktor Yanukovich, now prime minister.
After months of tests in an Austrian clinic, it was determined that he had ingested a massive amount of the poison dioxin.
Although he survived, his face was left bloated and pockmarked, and he has had to undergo regular treatment to rid his body of the toxin.
In an interview with Le Figaro he said he believed the dioxin used to disfigure him was made in a Russian lab.
Mr Yushchenko did not directly accuse the Russian government of being behind his poisoning, but he did say he had 'practically put all the pieces together' and the attempt against him 'was not a private action'. ..."

First the ordered slaughter of the entire Polish government in mid-air, and now this. The Russian Bear is as dangerous as ever.
Should Russia give it away for free? Russia needs a Black Sea port. At least they're willing to pay for it.
That Yanukovich would mend relations with Moscow wasn't lost on the Ukrainian electorate. The pro-West faction of Yushchenko and Tymoshenko had their chance to lead Ukraine and squandered it. So back to the warm embrace of Mother Russia Ukraine goes.
The Ukrainians do not want closer ties to Russia.
They have done very well since partition (yes they are dealing with a lot of issues but still). Russia is not reliable and could very well renege on the gas deal over some minor detail.
Also there are people alive who remember Stalin's great famine "The Holodomor" which caused death by starvation of 10 million Ukrainians.
The attempted assassination of the pro-US former president, Viktor Yushchenko, took place in 2004.
Jimmy: I understand the history, but this is crazy. There are other ways of getting those people out.
I couldstand it if Stark (Cal) Dodd(Conn) Frank(Mass) all felt the same sort of stress.
Okay, you win, I agree!
I tell you, that the fleet is needed in war against Georgia. Tell me; is war with Georgia worth USD 40 billion? Nemtsov noted.
According to the agreement signed between Russia and Ukraine, Russia is allowed to keep its Black Sea Fleet in Ukraine till 2042, It costs Russia USD 40 billion.
With Obama, Putin has absolutely nothing to fear, regardless of Russia's actions.
On April 28 he announced, no one should think that we will go to our homes if the elections are falsified. We will overthrow this government in an uprising.
On April 23-24 a controversial Russian businessman of Georgian origin, Alexander Ebralidze, using his ties with the Kremlin, organized a lavishly funded Congress of Peoples of Georgia in Saint Petersburg. Noghaidelis party associates Koba Davitashvili and Kakha Kukava used the occasion to fly to Russia to participate in the gathering and to deepen contacts with Russias political establishment. On April 28 they met with Vladimir Zhirinovsky, the Russian ultranationalist and leader of the Liberal Democratic Party, who chairs a large faction in Russias legislative organ, the State Duma. Lecturing the Georgian guests on the merits of Russo-Georgian friendship, Zhirinovsky refused to shake their hands and angrily told them, Do you know why we stood by the Abkhaz and Ossetians? Because they say only good things about Russia
If Tbilisi said good things about Russia, the Russians, ...the Russian army, there would be no problem...."
