Maybe Wanker ought to try and go to another country without papers and see how he fairs. Any county should police their own borders.

"Brewer speaks dramatically of her father moving the family halfway across America, but says nothing of the great-grandmother who arrived the same year the Statue of Liberty became a symbol of welcome to all those seeking a new life."

Okay, you want to make comparisons between her great grandmother and the mexicans crossing the border, lets do it. The first part where the comparison falls apart is that the Governor's ancestors came over here legally. What part of legal/illegal is so incomprehensible to you? The second comparison is that when her grandparents came over, they were promised nothing. No health benefits, no welfare, nothing. They had to go out and work to earn their living without any expectation from the government or in this case, the rest of the taxpayers.

That's already the FEDERAL LAW, dumbass! The law the feds won't enforce, but AZ will, finally.

If only the Feds were as lax about the income tax laws as they are about the immigration laws. There would be no IRS.

Most likely, she imagines there is a difference between the Europeans who sought refuge here in times past and Hispanics who dare to cross into her state.

BIG difference. We CHOSE the people who were ALLOWED in this nation. In Arizona, there are 500,000 illegals at the least--15 million nationwide. No one knows who they are and whether they are decent or scum. 31% of the violent criminals in our Federal prisons are illegals. LIBERALS spit in Lady Liberty's face when they passed the Immigration Act of 1965.

How come the New York Daily news writer doesn’t know his history about Ellis Island. Immigrants had to have a sponsor and had to clear a health screening. If they didn’t pass, they were sent home. The US govt was pretty strict on who they let in. In Galveston Bay, the island known as Pelican Island was called Quarantine Island. Immigrants from Southern Europe came through here and were quarantined for up to a month until their diseases cleared. The feds can afford to spend huge amounts of money to print everything in spanish, but can’t find the time to actually control our borders? Their actions show where their priorities are.

If the second word is in fact in the man’s name, then that fact is supported by other documentation than the cited article.

Yeah, the IRS and the ATF use microscopes to detect noncompliance.

I am sure her Grandparents came here legally. Just another liberal bleeding heart trying to blur the distinction between legal immigrant and illegal alien.

The author’s name wasn’t altered. Wranker is in brackets and clearly meant to be an insult to the author. Perfectly acceptable and within FR rules. Find something legitimate to bitch about.

I see the steaming pant load is from NY. OK, I’d be willing to compromise, send everyone that wants in to NY with the stipulation that if they leave they get deported.

The entry has been altered AFTER I made my comments. So they were legitimate in that someone saw fit to respond to them, at least silently. You may retract your insult any time now.

Even before there was a USA, some immigrants had to sign papers promising to obey the laws of the colony. Folks on my dad’s side came to Pennsylvania from what is now Germany in the 1700’s. The English colonists got worried about the influx of the German-speaking immigrants William Penn was recruiting so a law was passed requiring ship’s captains to keep a list of those immigrants and to require the immigrants to sign an oath to obey the English laws before they were allowed to disembark.

(Side note: As is common with immigrant groups, the German speakers soon moved to an area to be near each other. To this day, that section of Philadelphia is called Germantown. Later, many of those immigrants moved to better farm land and became known as the “Pennsylvania Dutch”. Their moral home life, work ethics & refusal to participate in or accept government financial services is legendary.)

Look at the stances of the police. Those are not today’s donut eaters and juicers. Those are small framed men with an amazing posture. ‘Ramrod’ straight, shoulders pinned back.

Or maybe Brewer does not know her family's history.

Note to Michael Daly. You don't know her history either. Her family immigrated here LEGALLY, not illegally. Stuff it where the sun doesn't shine.

All the polls show the American people know exactly what AZ's language is in the new bill....and it's NOT immigration.

ILLEGAL is the word of the day and how many writers of how many articles can omit the word?

My grandparents came over from Armenia and they didn't sneak across any border. They and other immigrants did things the legal way.

I really wish the Border Patrol would just round up the illegal protestors and ship them back to Mexico since they are conveniently in one handy location!

“Their moral home life, work ethics & refusal to participate in or accept government financial services is legendary.)”

So true. I remember when we were struggling to pay the bills, welfare was around, but for us it was not an option. My parents moonlighted as cleaning people rather than enter the welfare system (which they considered a personal failure). Within several years we were on our feet. Now they are upper middle class. That’s the way America works.
