Ask Dr. Helen: Does Society Encourage Genital Assault Against Men?
Pajamas Media ^ | April 27 | Helen Smith

No one notices or cares about violence against men’s genitals, except to poke fun of those men who are kicked or hit in the balls. People even make fun of men whose penises are severed, as in the case of John Wayne Bobbitt. I think Kevin is correct — no one cares or deals much with the trauma this act may cause to men. I often see shows where a man is kicked in the groin and this is often depicted as funny or “no big deal.” Imagine the uproar if a women were punched in the breast on a television show. It is unthinkable....

As I ponder the very real threat that we are losing our country and other such things, it is comforting to me to know that someone is thinking about my balls. Although, I would rather is wasn’t some guy named Kevin.

She has a point. What comes to my mind immediately, is the story from last year where a gaggle of women who were all sleeping with the same married man, kidnapped, bound and super-glued his -ahem- junk, to his leg.

As I recall, that was met with tremendous laughter on shows like "The View". Imagine if a man who caught his wife in bed with another man, super-glued her breasts together, or other things. I imagine, that wouldn't be met with as much elation. Just a guess.

Don’t join in this moral equivalency and don’t whine like a feminist if some guy gets his balls glued together because his mistress is angry. If the hags on the VIEW joke about it, while showing anger when similar things happen to women, it actually proves they agree with me - Men ARE the stronger sex.

And if a band of rogue women somewhere want to try and mutilate my genitals, let them try.

To me this falls into the same distasteful bucket of:

(1) men in commercials are poorly dressed, poorly groomed idiots, jerks and social misfits being eye-rolled by women who REALLY know what’s right.

(2) women on TV slapping/punching/physically assaulting men and it is ALWAYS portrayed as justified.

(3) as above, but change justified to “funny”

(4) petite women who can engage a large, physically fit man in hand-to-hand ‘combat’ or martial arts and readily beat him to a pulp. Having been in martial arts years ago, I can tell you that without surprise there wasn’t a woman capable of hitting me hard enough to knock me down/ out. Notwithstanding a kick to the gonads which was prohibited.

(5) men are pigs constantly reinforced

(6) fathers are abusers and/or un-needed

(7) masculinity is an illness unless you want a jely jar opened

(8) the women in Home Depot/Lowes/Sears/Ace know more about tools and trades than men.

(9) MEn ought to be cowed by the women in their lives

(10) Strong men are bad, strong women are good.

but to sum it all up, yeah, it pi$$es me off to see this depicted as no big deal on TV.

Come on...I can't believe no one else out there has recognized this as a very good satire of our victiomhood society. This is more Oprah than Oprah.

While the author has a very valid point about the double standard, the guy who kept a harem and cheated on his wife and girlfriends is not in the same category.

As one freeper said, he should have thanked whatever deity he calls god that that was all they did to him.

I certainly have a lot less sympathy for him that others who are legitimately injured for no good reason.

And sorry, I laughed at that one.

And sorry, I laughed at that one.

Fair enough. But, if the roles were completely reversed - a married woman who was carrying on with multiple sexual partners - was kidnapped by those partners, bound to a bed in a hotel room with her - well, you know - glued together, would anyone believe that to be funny?

My comment was intended as an endorsement of that creeps behavior. I meant to underscore the double-standard with respect to violence against women v. violence against men.
