Feeling conspiratorial, but what if Bush v. Gore 2000 was done just so the Supremes would not take the case.

I don't know about that, but it's a fact the Progressives and the evil one-world-guvvies operate on a much grander schedule than you or I. They plan by decades. A few years here and there for test cases to run their course is nothing. Incrementalism, nudges here and there, and long, LONG time frames have been what made this "sudden leap" into socialism such a success.
