Charitable Conservatives Give More, Chatter Less
Menzies House ^ | April 29, 2010 | Ben-Peter Terpstra

Ben-Peter Terpstra writes on why conservatives tend to give more than left-of-centre liberals.

I can see why Ann Coulter detests the compassionate conservative label. Indeed, it sounds as patronising as the articulate black label because conservatism is compassionate, period. In Makers and Takers Peter Schweizer explains (page 70):

Over the past fifteen years, the General Social Survey has consistently shown that religious conservatives are 25 percentage points more likely than [left-of-centre] liberals to donate money to help the poor and are 23 points more likely to volunteer time for that cause. As Arthur Brooks points out, the annual gap in giving is large: $2,210 for religious conservatives, $642 for skinflint liberals.

The socialists would claim that they give more than real Americans do. The difference is that working people give our own money to charities we have chosen that help those in need, and socialists also donate our money to help those they see as in need (themselves) when they support ACORN, SEIU, TARP, or other liberal causes.

That's not fair!

Liberals would give more to charity, if you would just give them more of your hard earned money so that they can!

(sarcasm)

That’s because Liberals think that governments should do everything and that all they have to do is raise an issue to the government and they have done their part.

Much of the reason is because conservatives are more likely to be involved in a church that gives money to charity and benevolence efforts. I would also be willing to bet that black democrats who are involved in a real church (not a rev wright type church) probably give more $$$ to charity than many white liberals who probably make 3 or 4 times what they make.

I can tell you right now the libs will tell you that it’s because they are “socioeconomically deprived”.

That’s the excuse for EVERYTHING.

They can’t do homework with their kids because they are socioeconomically deprived. They can’t give more to charity. They can’t keep their houses clean and in repair.

And yes, I’ve had all three of those conversations with libs.
