Some Chronicle editorials just never get dated. Take this one from more than a year ago on Texas Gov. Rick Perry's persistent championing of border cameras linked to the Internet as effective security devices to catch cross-border drug dealers and illegal aliens.
“He's tried it once, he's tried it twice, and the bottom line looks worse than ever,” we wrote in a piece headlined “Costly arrests; Results from video surveillance program of Texas border underwhelming.”
Perry originally pushed a $200,000 border-cam pilot project that produced little in the way of arrests or drug busts. After leery legislators refused to fund an expansion of the program, Perry came up with $2 million in 2008 and did so again last year, using federal grant money he controls.
At that time, after six months of operation, the 13 cameras had resulted in one drug bust and three arrests. They did get a boffo response from thousands of Internet users who signed up as virtual border deputies.

As Duncan Hunter said: Perry and the Texas Senators did not want the border fence. So they killed the border fence, on the basis that they wanted to have a friendly border. They got a friendly border, but the problem is it’s friendly to drug dealers, rapists, and felons who are coming across in increasing numbers to commit crimes against Americans and move large amounts of cocaine and other narcotics.

Isn’t most of the Texas-Mexico border divided by the Rio Grande river and cliff ranges? It’s not the flat desert land that Arizona-Mexico border is right?
When it comes to the borders and amnesty, Perry is just another McCain/Bush.
Virtual fences, cameras and drones, all just one big, planned diversion after another from people who have no intention of providing good border security.

The Arizona-Mexico border between the Lochiel Valley, twenty miles east of Nogales and the Organ Pipe Cactus crossing well to the west is not flat desert. Rather, it is mountainous in places, often hilly, and the canyons that run north-south and located West of Nogales are preferred entrances for illegals. In the Arivaca Creek region the illegals have left mounds of trash, and few people visit what was once a wonderful spot for piknicking. This situation is sad. Very sad. And it is also enfuriating that the United States is unable to protect its sovereignty.
When it comes to private property rights and parental rights, Perry is a RINO from h*11!
I hate that man.
With the choice between Perry and Hutchison here in Texas, I feel like I did when asked to choose between McCain and Obama...
For governor, I still can't figure out which is the lesser of two evils.

You think you hate Perry? I highly recommend doing your homework before pulling the lever for (in every sense of the word) White. White is a bafoon; of the bleeding heart kind. Expect the goon squads to start campaigning for him by summer, at the latest.
I didn't say that I was thinking about pulling the lever for White. I said that I was looking for a *good* option! lol!
After the eminent domain decision by the SCOTUS, Perry started snapping up private property for his pet highway project faster than a snapping turtle can take a finger. And don't forget the Gardisil fiasco.
There *has* to be a better option! Com'on people! This is Texas!
