Actually, the Mexicans were the main distributors of Colombian cocaine back in the 1980s in the western portion of the US. Starting in the 90s, the Mexican distributors became powers in their own right, cutting out the Colombians. Moreover, demand in the US for methamphetamine was picking up, allowing Mexican cartels to readily supply said product.
