Faint fingers of oily sheen have reached the mouth of Mississippi River, the vanguard of a massive spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
The slick is making its way toward a delicate environment of birds, marine life and some of the nation's richest seafood grounds.
By sunset Thursday, the oil had creeped into South Pass of the river and was lapping at the shoreline in long, thin lines.

A delicate environment...shaped by rip-roaring hurricanes since pre-history.
(I don’t like the oil spill, but the affected areas will eventually

Worked out of Breton Island for a couple of years, Main Pass and South Pass. The mess after Camille ended that for me. Some nice fishing out around the platforms for sure.
Just listening to a knowledgable Offshore Oil Patch guy on FNC talking about how they have come up with a trap for the 130 gallons a minute well flow, using an inverted funnel to bring the crude to tanker suction. Once that’s inplace they just pump it onto oil barges until BP can shut the well off.
Lots of brackish and sea water around there, don’t know if the snakes can dig the salt water, it would be the only place in Louisiana that didn’t have some big watermeskins.
Not to be too nit-picky, but that would be Ray Nagin, not Dinkin (NYC). Although, both are interchangeable.

Nah, sounds like Bush and Cheney’s MO (blowing up the levees) that caused all the damage to NO during Katrina.

That was my thought. I can’t imagine any other reason they would send SWAT teams. What else are they going to do? Are they trained in enviro clean up?
