Beijing: Twenty-eight children were stabbed on Thursday by a 47-year-old man at a kindergarten in China's Jiangsu province, a day after 16 primary school students were attacked by a mentally-unstable man in Guangdong province.

An unemployed man, identified Xu Yuyuan, carried out the attack at 9.30 a.m. local time on Thursday in Zhongxin Kindergarten in Jiangsu's Taixing city, in which two teachers and a security guard were also injured, Xinhua quoted government officials as saying.

On Wednesday, a mentally-unstable 33-year-old man, named Chen Kangbing, had stabbed 16 students and a teacher at the Leicheng First Primary School in Guangdong province's Leizhou city.

Thursday's attacker Xu worked in an insurance company until he was fired in 2001. Since then, he has remained jobless, they said.

The children have been admitted in hospital and five of them are in a critical condition. Many of the injured children were four years old and studied in the same class.

Xu broke into the kindergarten classroom wielding a 20-cm-long knife and attacked the children and the two teachers. The security guard was injured when he tried to stop the man, police said.

Man Attacks Kindergarten Class In China, Kills Himself, Security On Campus Beefed Up

WEIFANG (Shandong), April 30 (Bernama)-- Five kindergarten class children and a teacher were injured Friday when a man attacked them with an iron hammer before killing himself at an east China school, China's Xinhua news agency reported.

The man soaked himself in gasoline and grabbed two children in his arms before setting himself on fire at Shangzhuang Primary School in Weifang City, Shandong Province, said a spokesman for the city government.

The two children were pulled away by teachers, but the man died at the scene, said the spokesman.

All five injured children had been taken to hospital, where doctors said their conditions were all stable and not life-threatening, he said.

The attacker, Wang Yonglai, a farmer from Shangzhuang Village, of Jiulong Community in the city's Fangzi District, broke down a side gate of the school with his motorcycle at 7:40 a.m., said the police.

Wielding the hammer, he injured five children and struck the foot of one teacher who tried to block him.

Its like some horror movie. Just horrible that people are choosing to copycat an attack on innocents.

This does not bode well for a country with such a disproportionate number of unmarried men who have no chance of being head of a family.

This is awful. The sole bright spot is that China won’t waste time or money warehousing, rehabilitating, and releasing this nut back into the community.
