After making national headlines for a new law on illegal immigrants, the Arizona Legislature passed a bill Thursday that would ban ethnic studies programs in the state that critics say currently advocate separatism and racial preferences.
The bill, which passed 32-26 in the state House, had been approved by the Senate a day earlier. It now goes to Gov. Jan Brewer for her signature.
The new bill would make it illegal for a school district to teach any courses that promote the overthrow of the U.S. government, promote resentment of a particular race or class of people, are designed primarily for students of a particular ethnic group or "advocate ethnic solidarity instead of the treatment of pupils as individuals."
The bill stipulates that courses can continue to be taught for Native American pupils in compliance with federal law and does not prohibit English as a second language classes. It also does not prohibit the teaching of the Holocaust or other cases of genocide.
Schools that fail to abide by the law would have state funds withheld.

>..good!...like womens studies, ethnic studies are a waste of taxpayer money and a rip off of students tuition money...theyre worthless degrees.
Agreed. Will they drop “women’s studies” though?
And if there’s “women’s studies” why aren’t there “men’s studies” ... is it because there are so many guy things like the military (oh, nope they have women)... the police (oh, wait, they have women)... politics (oh, wait, there are women there too)... um.. hm.. PROSTATE CANCER! It’s a guy thing!
Civil Rights division of HUD,
Division of the Perpetually Aggrieved.
Wow... taking the fight direct to the academic leftists. although they attack ethnic studies, in truth it is cultural marxism cloaked in various forms that is the problem.
If the people of Arizona support this and the anti-Illegal Alien bill, WHY are they supporting that lying bastard John McCain?
It just doesn’t make sense.
Any university course with the word “studies” in it is academically worthless.
The only college major with even less intellectual content is “Education”.
“Why are tax payer dollars being used to pay teachers of such useless subjects?”
People want to support higher education, because it is ‘for the future’. And they are right to do so.
Educational institutions are controlled by academic leftists in faculties and university administrations.
Those faculties and administrations put in these programs. cultural marxists have infiltrated these institutions.
The better option would be to replace administrations and faculties, but that is impossible. that’s like street-to-street fighting in fallujah.
This is the next least-bad option to rein in the academic left. this bill is a bit clumsy and a bludgeon and will of course be vilified. Worst option is to keep writing them blank checks to do what they do — which is what happens in most universities in most states.
we AREN’T!! trust me, the polls are rigged.
You might be on to something. Jan Brewer for President. Hmmm...
At least “education” majors have a product of their profession - young people “educated” or indoctrinated and trained for voting democrat.
A “studies” major’s end product is unexamined ideas, the more non-traditional the better. No one ever examines the effects and consequences of these ideas, because the goal of self-aggrandizement has already been accomplished.

Me too!
How did someone with so much common sense ever get this far in government?
I’m surprised I haven’t seen a Palin/Brewer 2012 bumper sticker graphic yet!
......”Traditionally, the American public school system has brought together students from different backgrounds and taught them to be Americans and to treat each other as individuals, and not on the basis of their ethnic backgrounds,” Horne said. “This is consistent with the fundamental American value that we are all individuals, not exemplars of whatever ethnic groups we were born into. Ethnic studies programs teach the opposite, and are designed to promote ethnic chauvinism.”....
All that was overthrown in the 1970’s by Alex Haley’s “Roots”, which was also turned into a popular TV miniseries:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Haley#Plagiarism_and_other_criticism
Almost immediately, the culture changed, so that people were not identified as Americans, but as particular “nationalities”. This went WAY beyond blacks and Latinos, and continues today.
It turns out that “Roots” was NOT Haley’s family history, but was plagiarized from an earlier novel!!!! Much of the deleterious changes to our culture can be traced to this phony, poisonous piece of propagandistic fiction. Of course, unethical politicians have used this cultural change to practice “divide and conquer”, ultimately leading to the election of Barack Hussein obama.
God bless Arizona for leading us away from this satanic garbage!
Right on ARIZONA
Enough is enough
“If the people of Arizona support this and the anti-Illegal Alien bill, WHY are they supporting that lying bastard John McCain?”
Because he’s a GOOD liar! His speeches, website, talking heads ALL insist he’s for border security and against Amnessty.
It’s the only way he ever wins.
Mar. 2008 - Poll: Voters Unaware of Candidates Immigration Positions; McCain Supporters Farthest Off the Mark
WASHINGTON (March 31, 2008) A new poll using neutral language finds that primary and caucus voters have little knowledge of candidates immigration positions. The results also show that voters often do not share their candidates position.
Among the findings:
* Only 34 percent of McCain voters, 42 percent of Clinton voters, and 52 percent of Obama voters correctly identified their candidate as favoring eventual citizenship for illegal immigrants who meet certain requirements.
* Of McCain voters, 35 percent mistakenly thought he favored enforcement that would cause illegals to return home, another 10 percent thought he wanted mass deportations, and 21 percent didnt know his position.
* Voters often held different positions from the candidate they supported. Only 31 percent of McCain voters had the same immigration position as he does. [snip]
Hard to believe that the state would have to pass laws to prevent discrimination at this point in history.
Screw me once - shame on you, screw me twice - shame on me.
A people gets the government it deserves and, unfortuantely, we have some VERY stupid voters. 2008 proved that.
McCain doesn’t deserve to be considered in the same thought as this gal. What a beam of hope is streaming from AZ.
WHAT do they study? They can go home in the afternoon and get all the ethnic instruction they need.
