"It has been 10 days... TEN DAYS!! and what has Obama done? played golf? Done a few fund raisers? It took Bush only 3 days to respond to Katrina."

Zero was too busy playing the blame game and creating the fascade that his buddies in Goldman Sachs were solely responsible for all the ills of the economy, while we who do not get our only news from mainstream media know it was really the DemocRats and a certain ahole named Soros that caused the meltdown.

Hold your breath for the lamestream media to report THAT fact, much less to place any blame on Zero for screwing around for over a week.

In answer to the question....YES! I am missing Bush yet.

Thanks, I understand what cost you meant.

I don’t see it described as a 3 hour controled fire but know I understand your time frame.

Thanks for the links.

The BP guy stated early on that the only possible explanation could be improperly mixed concrete. That proved not to be the case.

Where has that been proved? Any links on that information would be appreciated.

Drilling Process Attracts Scrutiny in Rig Explosion
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2503968/posts

An oil-drilling procedure called cementing is coming under scrutiny as a possible cause of the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon rig in the Gulf of Mexico that has led to one of the biggest oil spills in U.S. history, drilling experts said Thursday.

Thanks for your links - Rigzone has a lot of good material for the executive brief.

I was hoping that you would show up because I just heard that we are back to the bad concrete theory. What happened to the holes in the pipe. First they said that there was one hole and then a second one appeared that was used to explain the up tick in the rate of the leak. What happened to that?

They never said that it wasn’t the concrete, they just started saying that there was a leak in the main pipe and then there was two leaks. It’s possible that the news people on tv didn’t know what they were talking about. I’ve been trying to pin this down ever since Rush mentioned that they were back to the bad concrete explanation.

The first leak (after the explosion and the rig sank) was from the open end of the nearly mile long riser pipe that fell from between the seabed and the floating rig.

The second I believe was from another point in the kinked and mangled fallen pipe, still connected to the wellhead at the seabottom.

The cementing may, I say MAY, have been the source of the original blowout that started the chain of events.

The Blowout Preventer (strong valve capable of shearing through the drillstem pipe) has not operated either originally, nor when the submersible ROV’s (robot submarines) have gone to the main control panel and manually operated it.

Multiple things have gone wrong to get to this point.

The blowout should not have happened.

The gas from the blowout should not have ignited.

The BOP should have shut off the well automatically.

The BOP should have been triggered after the blowout occurred.

The BOP should have been capable of being closed manually from the ROV after the rig sank.

That is just the highlights.

How could so many things go wrong at one time? What would be the statistical odds?

My nephew majored in actuarial science, if we can find the information on the various failure rates of each of those factors, I might be able to get him to do the calculations for us. I guess he would need both the failure rates and the days of use. It just raises so many questions in my mind.

I worked on a drill rig (land) a couple of summers during college. One time we all had a lesson in mixing the drilling mud (not cement, but probably the same concepts). Adding enough solids to keep the weight up to prevent a blow-out, but not too much as it slows the drilling.

So the guy that sells the clay solids is giving us all the little class, carefully measuring stuff, weighing it on little scales, adding more, weighing again, etc.

Our veteran mud-man at the end of this detailed show and tell says “So - if I don’t add the dirt it’s just water - right?”

I need to read through this whole thread. My initial thought was that perhaps while they were shutting down and sealing up the well the blow-out preventer may have been taken off line or even removed.

BOP was and is in place, it has not been able to operate, even manually with ROV’s.

More info on what was done:

“Now I’m convinced of it-the spill was deliberate..”

Ok, I will be putting my tinfoil hat on now because my peeps will be all over me again about this; but, I wondered when the spill occured how long it would be before Obama withdrew his unbelievable support of off-shore drilling. Which then led me to wonder what really happened on that rig, as if we’ll ever find out the truth.

Never let a good crisis go to waste.

We’ve had two mine incidents in a month as well.....Might as well go all the way with my conspiracy thinking.

I was being sarcastic. Of course burning oil can damage steel.

But “It’s Bush’s Fault” worked fine for the left, so let’s make this Obama’s fault. He must have planned this and had someone plant the charges. Clearly an inside job, fire alone cannot melt steel! Look at the color of the smoke in the early stages, clearly thermite or something like it!

Obama wants off shore drilling; but, according to him it has to be done “safely and responsibly.” Well, the way Obamby thinks, the only entity that could guarantee that is.....wait for it...the Federal Gov’t.

Wow, the king will probably decree a takeover of the oil industry now, so it can be safely regulated.

Thanks for the link. I thought they were talking about putting in the final cement “plug” - which had not yet been done. They had finished putting the cement around the annulus (outside) of the casing.

In the article it said one possibility is that the annulus is what is leaking. If that is the case, then I don’t think a BOP would do any good.

Using another well to relieve the pressure is in the works. The other article mentioned constructing a “dome” containment over the well head.

What a mess. And dangerous work for the crews involved in fixing it.

Annulus is also the description of between casing and tubing, where fluid can flow.

DBrow, I was agreeing that it seems statistically odd that there is such a huge oil catastrophe so soon after Obama pulled that amazing little shift in his agenda and talked about potentially lifting the ban. When I say things like that the part of my family that is liberal or just not involved in politics says I need to put on my tinfoil hat!
