bin Laden Associate: al-Qaida Expected Weak ‘Bill Clinton’ Response to 911
Dakota Voice ^ | 4-26-10 | Bob Ellis

Noman Benotman, leader of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group and associate of Osama bin Laden, says bin Laden had no idea the United States would launch an all-out war against terrorism when they planned the 911 attacks.

WTOP quotes Benotman as saying

“What happened after the 11th of September was beyond their imagination, ” says Benotman, who adds that al-Qaida thought the U.S. was a “paper tiger.”

bin Laden thought President George W. Bush would do the same thing Bill Clinton did in retaliation for terrorist attacks: launch a few cruise missiles at some camels and quickly forget the attack ever happened. Clinton never took America’s defense and the threats against us seriously. When our embassies were bombed, he did little. When the USS Cole was attacked, he did little. When Iraq fired on our planes patrolling the no-fly zone hundreds of times each year, Clinton did little. Even when the World Trade Center was attacked the first time and terrorists tried to blow it up, Clinton did little to nothing.

Americans can often see the difference between one president and another, between a weak leader and one of conviction. People from other countries–especially other cultures–often cannot make those distinctions. They see America growing weak under Bill Clinton, and they can’t reasonably imagine the United States returning to strength and character; to them, once weakness starts, it does not reverse itself.

Is Benotman and his statements reliable? I don’t know for certain, but we’ve seen indications that back it up. And that has been my conviction since September 11, 2001.

George Bush was not a perfect president, but he did have the character and moral center to realize that threats to America had to be dealt with, and dealt with decisively. He realized we couldn’t keep responding to terrorist attacks with ineffectual slaps…or we would invite more and bigger 911-type attacks.

With our president’s “Apology Tour” and the ineptitude at Homeland Security in the last year, I shudder to think what our enemies are thinking and planning these days.

For all of his ‘compassionate conservatism’ and spending faults, he sure was the guy to have in there when 9/11 happened.

The lesson is that if you want a weak response, wait until you actually have a weak president.
Uh-oh . . . . .

George W Bush was the right man at the right time - WRT the WOT. His domestic concerns, not so much.

GW really Really REALLY frustrated me with some of his very real failings.

Protecting America from jihadists - including going on the offensive - wasn’t one of them.

Very little I wouldn’t do if it would get GW back in the Whitehouse instead of obozo. Crawl over broken glass? That’s the least of it!

The interesting thing is that a major attack can take years to plan. They should be ready right around the time we decide between the socialist and Governor Palin. I wonder if they realize how big a difference there might be between the responses from a weak terrorist sympathizer who hates America and that from a strong American.

She needs to make sure she has the full Thatcher going on, and a team of dangerous characters in her cabinet. The Moslems would be tempted to underestimate a woman.

Obama would have held a beer summit to try to understand their anger with us.

I dont think she would think twice about nuking them.

She would think twice, and her response would be proportionate. I don't believe that any responsible leader would use nukes in response to a conventional attack, but I'm firmly convinced that President Palin will not shrink from using our military to protect our people from evil. [I don't use the title "President" for the former US Senator who is now occupying our White House, but I will be proud to use that title again in January of 2013.]

Coincidence this post and this post:

Perry criticizes Ariz. law, won't adopt for Texas

I see parallels to Clinton's approach to terrorism and Perry's criticisms of AZ's new law.
