Pregnant hammerhead shark found dead on Delray Beach

A dead, fish-hooked, pregnant hammerhead shark washed ashore on Delray Beach, but its 35 pups could not be saved, despite efforts by researchers, police said.
The 13-foot shark washed up around 3 p.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of North Ocean Boulevard and a large crowd gathered around it. A fish hook had to be removed from the shark's mouth. Police are not investigating because it is unclear where the hook came from and whether a crime was committed, police spokesman Jeff Messer said.

Besides, the hook is in the edge of the mouth. It wasn’t the problem.

Crime? What possible crime was committed? Sharks can't be fished or how do you stop a shark from grabbing the hook meant for some other game fish?

Hammerheads are one of the sharks most often involved in attacks on humans.
And they can grow to be huge. I was on a fishing boat in the Gulf of Cortez off Matzatlan and two hammerheads cruised past the 35 foot sportfisherman. They were about 2/3 the length of the boat.
