Authorities in southern Arizona are searching for a deputy who radioed for help and said he had been shot with an AK-47 assault rifle in a remote desert area. Pinal County Sheriff's Lt. Tammy Villar says the deputy called in Friday to say he had encountered a group and been shot in the abdomen.

The area is used by drug- and human-smugglers from Mexico.

However, the circumstances that led to the shooting are unclear.

Oh NO. I must have misread the earlier post on this—I didn’t realize they couldn’t locate the deputy. Dear God.

Literally—God, this one is all yours now.

Yes, there is another thread on the shooting but I don’t recall the original article saying they couldn’t locate the deputy.

This makes it even more horrid.

Okay...

WHy would this deputy effect a traffic stop w/o giving the location of the traffic stop, HWY 1234, at or about mile marker 123456 etc...

On HWY 54321 about 5 miles from the city limits of Skunk Bottom Hollow...

The Deputy was meticulous enough to call out the type and kind of weapon used to shot him, yet he failed to give out a location?

WTH!?!?!

According to the live stream on the other thread the deputy has been found. I don’t know his condition.

And people in other states wonder why the people of Arizona are enraged about illegal immigration. It’s because of outrageous situations such as this poor deputy is faced with.

Prayers.

who apparently was near Interstate 8 and Arizona 84 about 50 miles south of Phoenix.

Well apparently not... those are decent cross referenced hard geographical points to begin a search.

Praying they find this deputy. Prayers for him, his family and coworkers. Please find him.

Heavens knows AZ and its citizens cannot handle this right now.

I’m so glad Napolitano has declared illegal aliens crossing the border are NOT criminals.

What about GPS? Heck, even the trucking companies out of Arizona track their equipment with GPS.

the junction of AZ84 and I-10 is about 30 mi west of the red star on your map. Very remote area. Smuglers go up 84 to AZ 347. They can avoid the check points on I-10 going into pheonix.

It can be very difficult to find anything in open desert, it’s not like a regular neighborhood where you have street signs & land marks.

In the remote areas, there is literally nothing for orientation. I don’t know enough about GPS to say if that would be accurate, I would imagine it depends on how accurate the mapping software was.
