Top Puerto Rican Government Leaders Argue for Statehood on Capitol Hill
cnsnews ^ | April 30, 2010 | Nicholas Ballasy

Top leaders in the Puerto Rican government, including the governor, speaker of the House, and president of the Senate told CNSNews.com on Capitol Hill that they want Puerto Rico to become a U.S. state. The U.S. House of Representatives passed a measure on Thursday that will permit Puerto Ricans to vote on a ballot that, as one option, would allow the process to statehood to commence.

“Even though this is not a statehood bill, yes, I believe we should become a state -- we have been natural born citizens since 1917,” Luis Fortuño, the Republican governor of Puerto Rico (R-Puerto Rico), told CNSNews.com.

“We fought in every war with courage and valor since then,” he said, “and actually I believe it behooves us to finish this process that commenced when we became part of the nation in 1898, and be able to fully participate in the decisions that are made every day on the 4 million American citizens residing in Puerto Rico -- or allow us to take a different route and just have our own government.”

...The top leaders in the Puerto Rican government also said they see many benefits for the citizens of Puerto Rico if the U.S. territory becomes a state.

“First of all, we are demanding full benefits of our citizenship,” said Thomas Rivera Schatz, the president of the Senate (R-Puerto Rico). “Already, we haven’t those full benefits and we fight the U.S. wars. We are part of a U.S. government and we don’t have the full benefits of our citizens. We can’t vote for the president. We don’t have representation in the House or the Senate. So, those are some of the benefits we are demanding.”

Wonder what Obozo offered them as a reward for preventing his removal in November?

He has bribed everyone else.

Remember, November is Coming!

Well if the democrats want it it can’t be good and the fact that the new progressives call themselves “republican” won’t fool anyone who takes more than a cursory glance.

Not much. Most Puerto Ricans don't make enough to pay income tax.

Who were the Republicans in the Spanish Civil War? This provides the key my leeetle fren. Talk about a bunch of RINOS!-——>>>

WIKIPEDIA
Republicans
Main articles: Republican Left (Spain), Spanish Revolution, CNT-FAI, POUM, and Unión General de Trabajadores

Republicans (also known as Spanish loyalists) received weapons and volunteers from the Soviet Union, Mexico, the international Marxists movement and the International Brigades. The Republicans ranged from centrists who supported a moderately capitalist liberal democracy to revolutionary anarchists; their power base was primarily secular and urban, but also included landless peasants, and it was particularly strong in industrial regions like Asturias and Catalonia.[34] This faction was called variously the “loyalists” by its supporters; the “Republicans”, “the Popular Front” or “the Government” by all parties; and “the reds” by its enemies. Regarding the term “loyalist”, Historian Stanley Payne notes: “the adjective “loyalist” is somewhat misleading, for there was no attempt to remain loyal to the constitutional Republican regime. If that had been the scrupulous policy of the left, there would have been no revolt and civil war in the first place.”[11]

The conservative, strongly Catholic Basque country, along with Galicia and the more left-leaning Catalonia, sought autonomy or even independence from the central government of Madrid. This option was left open by the Republican government.[35] All these forces were gathered under the People’s Republican Army (Ejército Popular Republicano, or EPR) .

So, those are some of the benefits we are demanding.

And here is a little more from their own website.

Statehooders also believe that, while we are part of the U.S. economy and not able to vote for the President, and our lack of representation in congress, we are at a great disadvantage in obtaining our fair share of federal programs and funds.

Obama is plainly desperate to retain power. We are crossing the threshold if PR becomes a state. It will no longer be acceptable to merely defeat the democrats. They are making it necessary for us to destroy them politically.

Mark Levin said on his radio show the other night, that if we don’t win November and 2012 elections we may never again have a chance to. They will change and rig it for their advantage - it wont be possible in the future. (paraphrase)

Wow! They pay no taxes as it is. So they become a state and are too po to pay taxes but they get to leech off us even more?

You see.... The tax arrangements were different a generation ago. A lot more of us paid income taxes. But with all the earned income tax credits and nonsense the Puerto Ricans can do better now paying taxes they are too po to have to have to pay anyway.

Sweeeeet! Obama- Crank up the pinata machine for our newest leeetle frens!

...and be able to fully participate in the decisions that are made every day on the 4 million American citizens residing in Puerto Rico...

He really is referring to the 4 million in Puerto Rico who have been the recipients of the product of the U.S. welfare industry since day one. For the most part a charming people, even to the point of inspiring a liberal’s dream of a Broadway play and even a song (”Maria”) based on their exploits as gang leaders in the New York City of the 1950’s (”West Side Story”) but the entire island is nothing but an incubator for generational welfare recipientship. As long as someone in the family resides in the U.S., they get their benefits extended to the entire family no matter where it resides. This started with the first wave of Puerto Rican immigrants to New York in the 1950’s. Now that the Satanocrats are going to need lots of votes in November, the Ricans will be able to vote themselves a huge “pay raise”.

I don't think that's correct. Puerto Ricans can get on all kinds of Federally funded (that's by you and me) housing and medical benefits and welfare programs just residing on the ISLAND

They don't need to have family here. Puerto Ricans cannot vote for US President unless they reside in the Continental USA

What about the issue?

The status quo is stupid. I say cut 'em loose.

If we don't (just like if we don't give residential DC back to Maryland), they will become a state.

Hell no!! We don’t need to add a “welfare state” where English is a second language. The RATS are all for this as it would add two more RAT senators, which we are not in need of.
