Pakistani Taliban Claim Credit for Failed NYC Times Square Car Bombing
The Long War Journal ^ | Sunday, May 2, 2010 | Bill Roggio

Posted on 05/02/2010 9:09:28 AM PDT by kristinn

A top Pakistani Taliban commander took credit for yesterday's failed car bomb attack in New York City.

Qari Hussain Mehsud, the top bomb maker for the Movement of the Taliban in Pakistan, said he takes "fully responsibility for the recent attack in the USA." Qari Hussain made the claim on an audiotape accompanied by images that was released on a YouTube website that calls itself the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan News Channel.

The tape has yet to be verified, but US intelligence officials contacted by The Long War Journal believe it is legitimate. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan News Channel on YouTube was created on April 30. Officials believe it was created to announce the Times Square attack, and Qari Hussain’s statement was pre-recorded.

"This attack is a revenge for the great & valuable martyred leaders of mujahideen," Qari Hussain said. He listed Baitullah Mehsud, the former leader of the Pakistani Taliban who was killed in a Predator strike in August 2009, and Abu Omar al Baghdadi, the former leader of al Qaeda Islamic State of Iraq who was killed by Iraqi forces in mid-April. And although he was not mentioned, an image of Abu Ayyub al Masri, the leader of al Qaeda in Iraq, was also displayed in the images accompanying the audiotape.

Qari Hussain also said the failed attack was "revenge for the Global American interference & terrorism in Muslim countries, especially in Pakistan for Lal Masjid operation," a reference to the July 2008 Pakistani military assault on Islamists holed up in the Red Mosque in Islamabad, as well as Predator strikes in Pakistan's tribal areas and the arrest and detention of Pakistani scientist Aifa Siddique.

Well, the Pentagon was hit, and we didn’t nuke them...

I think, if the CONGRESS, many of whom see themselves as our betters, were decapitated, the survivors would push for vengeance.

So I agree with you, but for different reasons.

BTW, I am one who believes that a demonstration project was overdue, after 55+ years, to show what power we can exert, and ARE CRAZY ENOUGH TO USE.

NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly says there is no proof as yet to support Taliban claim. Also says they are investigating e-mail claim of responsibility.

Kelly says they are looking at video of white male, 40s, seen in nearby alley taking off shirt and putting in bag, revealing another shirt underneath. Says detectives on way to Pennsylvania to meet with someone who thinks they videotaped suspect.

Kelly says gun locker removed from vehicle contained M-88 firecrackers, as did small canister in vehicle placed between two five-gallon gas canisters.

Gun locker also contained eight bags of powder, possibly fertilizer.

Very unlikely it was anything other than a catastrophic accident.

That is a major and very dangerous development if it is true that the Taliban terrorists in Pakistan were responsible for this car bomb terrorist attempt in Times Square. I checked the terrorist forums and they are happy with this as expected but there is no official Taliban or Al Qaeda media release on this subject published yet on official Al Qaeda terrorist forums such as “al falojah” terrorist forum.

I disagree. We don't need to nuke them. Carpet bombing of north-western Pakistan using MOABS and whatever else we want to drop on them would be more effective.

Do the Japanese or the Germans hate us because we firebombed most of their cities to ash? The cook who makes the meal for the enemy soldier is just as guilty as the enemy soldier who pulls the trigger. The same goes for a society that supports those who commit acts of terror or barbarism. The society itself needs to be completely destroyed before something better can be rebuilt to replace the barbarism and insanity.

The people in northwest Pakistan are our enemies.

Let God sort them out.

Is that the attitude our enemies should take towards us? Is that the attitude Christ took towards those who struck Him?

You are willing to sacrifice innocent men, women and children because they live in the same geographical area. That is indiscriminate murder, in my opinion. Killing “them” without regard to age or inno9cence renders us as morally deficient as those you call our “enemies.”

With the Germans and the Japanese, we were in a declared state of war, voted thus bu Congress.

We exist in no such legal condition of war with Pakistan. If the law of God and of morality doesn’t move you, doe the laws of nations and men?

Pakistan is our declared and necessary *ally*. To carpet-bomb NW Pakistan would turn us into aggressive tyrants, no better than Stalin or Saddam.

Actually, I did not give much credence to reports that a terror bombing was being attempted in the heart of NYC until I just read a blurb in “Powerline” that the tape claiming “Taliban” involvement was made before the incident occurred. If this turns out to be true, the USA needs to get its act together like right now!!! The danger signals are out there for all to see. Under the regime of POTUS Obama, Afganistan, Iraq are both going south. Iran and North Korea are like loose cannons on the deck of a ship in high seas. Incident after incident is going down, shootings of law enforcement personnel by illegal immigrants, kidnapping knowing no bounds, Oil rig explodes in the gulf of Mexico (Our POTUS Obama is asleep at the wheel), an almost fatal explosion in the heart of the NYC theater district, claims from terrorist organizations, a bomb in the Pittsburgh marathon and, our POTUS Obama is telling bad jokes at the WHCD lat night. The economy stinks, joblessness is with us forever, The federal and state governments are near bankrupt status, Israel is no longer under USA protection and our POTUS and his ilk of incompetent Democrats is doing zilch to protect and defend our country. Now, when Obama first took office, I begged the Democrat Party to take a good look at him, because I certainly had his number. I urged them on this very site and others to force him to resign or impeach him. The anti-American Democrat ilk just continue to plod along with him as he works his magic to destroy the
American way of life. However, November is coming, and with each passing day more Americans are getting the skinny on this failed POTUS. Democrat, you now know the passage of “Obamacare” did zilch to save your butts in the upcoming elections. I suggest you get moving to broom this incompetent POTUS before slews of innocent Americans and visiting foreigners get killed or injured because he failed to protect this nation. If you fools still think you’re safe, I would note that your communist, left-wing, immigation “May Day” rallies did not account to hill of beans across the country. You have lost the overwhelming numbers of the American people, and you are too blinded by your hate for America to realize it.

OPINION - SPECULATION:

I believe there are a number of options — including foreign influence on jihadis here in America.

I think I will wait for further updates (and explore a bit more) before hanging it on the Pakistani Taliban alone.

It was sickening and humiliating to say the least.

Well I'll give ya a little catch-back on the sickening and humiliating. Two-three days ago the ultra lib Denver Post ran an online poll with the question:

Do you support the actions taken by AZ?

I'm sure they was a hopin' the lib lefties would rule the roost.

Last time I looked it was like 73% YES against a weak 24% no and the rest were yer I dunno's.

Of course I even got upset at FR having a hero worship thread on Theodore Roosevelt! The man was NO conservative and NO conservationist!! I've learned these things about him long before I'd ever heard of a Glen Beck!!!

I think they oughta take his unconstitutional face off Mt. Rushmore and replace it with Ronauldus Magnus!!!

It's even harder when FR and FReepers do this, than when some Drive By Media exposes a supposed conservative for making outrageously non-consistent statements that should never come out of a righteous conservative!!!

But this is the first time I've voiced a complaint about FR and TR because there's no other place comparable to this place!!!
