PITTSBURGH -- Forbes Magazine has once again named Pittsburgh its "Most Livable City" in its annual report that looks at cost of living, unemployment rate, income growth and crime rates, among other factors.
"Indeed, Pittsburgh's art scene, job prospects, safety and affordability make it the most livable city in the country, according to measures studied. The city has rebounded from its manufacturing past. Disused steel mills have been re purposed into multimedia art centers, and amid a struggling national economy, Google Pittsburgh, a test site for the company's new high-speed broadband network, has expanded its offices to accommodate more hires," reads an article posted on Forbes.com.

Here’s the link to the original Forbes article:
Nutty looking list to me........
I’m shocked that a city in Michighan would be there. Although it’s a college town so I guess that sort of insulates it from the rest of the state. Pretty sure Detroit won’t be on this list anytime soon.
I have never gotten this fascination with art. It is fine, but art is what you do after you feed your family and yourself.
Harrisburg? Really depends on where you are in the area, but Harrisburg itself is a hole. A debt-ridden hole.
Pittsburgh is quaint in a way, but traffic is a nightmare for such a small city and it’s emptying. Downtown is Ghosttown.
Art is the waste product of a healthy society.
I always think these lists are dumb because it just depends on what you want in a place to live. I suspect I would hate Pittsburgh. Give me the mountains of southern NM any day. Other people would go mad there. So what?
Cleveland is at the bottom, Pittsburgh is at the top?
I’m not trying to say Cleveland is a great place, but the only real difference between Cleveland and Pittsburgh is that Pittsburgh has a couple winning sports franchises.
I think the list is crapola.
I can believe the two Utah cities, but the others are absolute sewers...
How about the Pittsburgh public school system?
When I see “art” I automatically assume liberal BS. Apparently a bunch of fancy art museums makes a place more livable.
The more trendy or yuppy or liberal a city becomes, the less I want to spend time there.
And I live 20 minutes south of Pittsburgh. But I live in the country bumpkin part of Pittsburgh-Metro. I only deal with the parts I can enjoy or tolerate and everything else falls into the “Thank God I don’t live anywhere near dahntahn” category.
I’ve lived near the ‘burgh... it’s a fine rationalization for nuclear war.
NM much better.
Yuns’ needed here.
LOL
I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, moved to the Denver, CO area in the 70's and have been back in the 'burgh for the past 10 years. When I was out there, my cousin wanted to drive out to visit. I was able to give him directions from Pittsburgh to my house in Littleton in less time than it takes to give directions from one point in Pittsburgh to another point in Pittsburgh 5 miles away.
I refuse to cross any of the rivers unless I absolutely have to or if someone else is driving. My old nerves can't handle the traffic, the potholes, and uncertainty of directions to a certain point and then the worry of getting a parking place.
And everybody in the Burgh expects you to know where everything is.
Consider The Parkway. Everybody in Pittsburgh talks about The Parkway.
There is no sign anywhere at all that says “Parkway”. None. at. all.
What drugs are they on??
from article on Pittsburg
“The city has rebounded from its manufacturing past. Disused steel mills have been repurposed into multimedia art centers, and amid a struggling national economy,”
In a struggling national economy, we are making up new words, where old words worked fine.
Disused and repurposed?
Clue: The Chinese who manufacture our goods, now don’t plan to buy anything from our “multimedia are centers.”
Moral: You can’t make chicken salad out of chicken sh!t. You can delay recognizing the truth for awhile, by calling it tossed fowl, but it doesn’t change it forever.
