You have finally presented the anti-nuke argument that no one else did. So far I agree with you

How about a nuke in a bore hole 100 ft down? I guess you would have the same shattered rock the oil can escape through. The ocean floor there is basalt so I hear. Thus would be quite prone to shatter if nuked.

Went looking and found some interesting info.

BP has completed what they are calling a “containment dome”. A 4-story, 70+ ton structure of steel and concrete.

Here's some articles:

This one has a drawing:

Uh.. Production changes all the time, and futures prices are certainly considered. Guess you don’t know much about the market.

“Or just crack up the rock formation holding back the oil so that instead of having one big leak you would have thousands of little ones.”

The actual oil deposit is 3 miles beneath the ocean floor, and it won’t be rock all the way down. You couldn’t crack that much rock even with a nuclear bomb. However, you could compact enough of it to stop it up...

Yeah. Bury it like Chernobyl under tons of concrete. Runaway nuclear pressure met its match and so will oil well pressure.

This was a very high pressure oil well from what I hear.

"Can leaks like this occur naturally?"

Wiggin, google California Seeps. The following is from Wikipedia. Natural seeps and gas emmissions seem to be conveniently forgotten in various "green" discussions. "Petroleum seeps may be a significant source of pollution." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petroleum_seep

You’d think a ‘lawyer’ would not be passing judgement in public...BP convicted in the court of public opinion..by the lame who is in the WH.

Or possibly Fred Astair

“Katrina was a natural disaster and the Fed response was to save American lives. That is a Constitutional mandate.”

Horse hockey. What language in the Constitution creates this so-called mandate? I agree with the remainder of what you say.

That’s what I think — the oil companies were forced to drill in very deep waters, so as ‘not to pollute our shores.’ Many more risks/ variables in this. Were they forced to do this since the chances for a disaster were higher? Therefore condemning them forever? Can we now drill in Alaska and Colorado, please? And mightn’t this be one of our INALIENABLE rights? We have to get O’s permission? He doesn’t even like this country.

The plan is to use the containment domes (3) to stop the flow of oil into the gulf, and once they have the structures in place they will start pumping oil from the domes.

If this is true, surely word will get out. I mean, how do you keep a torpedo attack a secret?

Sorry it doesn’t work that way.
Damaging that pipe is the last thing you want to do.

No it wouldn’t work. You would simply make a bigger mess than you have now.

Concrete slab?

It is my understanding that this is what they are going to do. They will lower a 70 steel and concrete cap and place it over the leak at the ocean floor. The cap will have a pipe extending from the cap to the surface of the water. This way they can capture a large amount of the oil coming from the well. Cross your fingers(or use a nuke..........tactical of course).
