As I recall, the cleanup for the Valdez did more harm than good.

BP is badly hurting its own industry with this crap. Obama’s response was not great, but BP’s is even worse by stating after the accident they had things under control. Then having workers sign these contracts is over the top.

These agreements sound like BS CYA.

I imagine the reason for this is centered around safety liability over anything, and has much to do with using private boats and equipment that are not treated or maintained to an industry standard.

An oilfield is going to be much more 'standardized' and internally regulated than a self-employed fisherman.
