Can you imagine if either Presidents Bush (41 or 43), Reagan, Nixon or Ford had been in charge when this catastrophe happened? It’d be all you’d hear about 24/7!! Just like there are no homeless people when a Democrat is in the White House!!

The Oil Pollution Act (the noose)

The Oil Pollution Act (OPA) was signed into law in August 1990, largely in response to rising public concern following the Exxon Valdez incident. The OPA improved the nation's ability to prevent and respond to oil spills by establishing provisions that expand the federal government's ability, and provide the money and resources necessary, to respond to oil spills. The OPA also created the national Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund, which is available to provide up to one billion dollars per spill incident.

In addition, the OPA provided new requirements for contingency planning both by government and industry. The National Oil and Hazardous Substances Pollution Contingency Plan (NCP) has been expanded in a three-tiered approach: the Federal government is required to direct all public and private response efforts for certain types of spill events; Area Committees -- composed of federal, state, and local government officials -- must develop detailed, location-specific Area Contingency Plans; and owners or operators of vessels and certain facilities that pose a serious threat to the environment must prepare their own Facility Response Plans.

Finally, the OPA increased penalties for regulatory noncompliance, broadened the response and enforcement authorities of the Federal government, and preserved State authority to establish law governing oil spill prevention and response.

It won’t be his Katrina because the press will do everything possible to deflect blame away from the teflon don.
Unlike when Katrina hit, were within 24 hours, CNN and the rest of the MSM were all down there doing “oh the humanity” reports and already screaming about it all being Bush’s fault, the press is doing everything they can to deflect this away from Obama.
So where’s Kanye West claiming Obama’s lack of action to this oil spill is because he hates black people?

It cannot be “Obama’s Katrina” because that would require the government press to act like an independent press. Won’t happen.

AW, c'mon. Everybody knows this is Big Oil, Halliburton, and Dick Cheney's fault! If we just had Cap and Trade as law none of this would have happened! /s/

Can someone please explain why Janet From Day One Napolitano is running the show on the oil spill? Seems like the HSA sec has more legitimate work back home in AZ or at Times Square. Where are the secs of Interior or Energy or the head of EPA?

Sorry but this isn’t even remotely of the scale of Katrina.

I don’t agree. Calling this Obama’s Katrina basically requires accepting that Bush was at fault in Katrina’s aftermath.

Nashville is under water and 20 people are dead with nary a peep from our “president” yet the oil spill is Obama’s Katrina?

Obama's Katrina

Probably not. The media won't hang this one on The One because they have one of their usual punching bags (Big Oil) they can blame for the catastrophe. Katrina also was a natural disaster, while this one was created by an ECE (Evil Corporate Entity). He will get a pass.

The standard Obama tactic whenever anything went wrong had been to blame “Bush, President.” With the oil spill he’s just streamlined that to “BP.” Nothing else has changed.

This thing started on April 20th and obama is just now visiting? Pathetic!

The man is too worried about Vera Baker to be concerned about what has happened in the Gulf.

This is really bad and will be worse, but nothing
in this could compare to those poor people standing and
sitting on an overpass for days and days. That was a
horrible day in America.
I cast no blame because I don’t know what happened during Katrina , but this is not yet at that point concerning people. That this land is in great harm and will be worse in days to come I do not dispute.
