KAHNAWAKE, QC, April 23 /CNW Telbec/ - Yesterday, during the 9th session of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, Ghislain Picard, Chief of the Assembly of First Nations of Quebec and Labrador (AFNQL), intervened, on behalf of the AFNQL, AFN and other human rights organizations, to welcome Canada's first steps toward the endorsement of the UN Declaration on the rights of Indigenous peoples. This joint statement he read from stated: "we request the government to instantly adopt this vital human rights instrument without qualifications".
To this effect, during the dialog between the North American States and Indigenous groups, Chief Picard added that "the Declaration sets out minimum standards with respect to rights that the States must respect. The government must ensure that the laws of Canada, including the Indian Act, comply with the Declaration and not vice versa". On April 20, a Canadian representative declared that the government would endorse the Declaration, as per the Speech from the Throne on March 3, that is to say "in full respect of the Constitution and the laws of Canada".
The declaration was endorsed by a majority vote of 143 countries at the UN General Assembly in September 2007. Canada, the United States, New Zealand and Australia were the only four to vote against. Since then, the governments of Australia and New Zealand have changed their position in favour of the Declaration. The Obama Administration also announced it is reconsidering the issue.
At the UN, Chief Picard took advantage of his presence at the UN to meet with other Indigenous world leaders as well as various organizations advocating for human rights and the rights of Indigenous peoples. "This one full day has allowed us to meet with our international contacts and demonstrate that First Nations are closely watching over the federal government," said Chief Picard.
Basically the Obama administration is (re)considering a UN treaty that would return most if not all on the US to "indigious peoples" or I assume make reparations.
The key phrase in this article is
The Obama Administration also announced it is reconsidering the issue.
Anyone else have details?

He can sign away everything, it means nothing.
Should be a trivial problem to find them all and give America back to them.
I hope you all give a good round of applause to your new landlords ~ the Clovis Culture!
Oh, BTW, the Yakuts/Sakha in Russia have many members with that marker, as do the Berbers, a small tribe in Subsaharan Africa, and the Laplanders!
Those other guys are just illegal aliens!
If John Bolton voted against it- and if obama now wants to vote for it- it must be bad.

I guess the good news is - if we are all illegal aliens, the indigenous people have to give us all free education, medical care, jobs and housing, and celebrate our culture too
bump
Brilliant!
I am SO trying to not comment on the name.

When do I get my free healthcare and free cheese?

Exactly who is indigenous? Even so-called Native Americans came here via the Siberian land bridge. This appears to be directed at those nasty white European colonialists.
Apparently Australia signed on some time ago, and now people who can claim 1/64 Aborigine blood are filing challenges and shutting down multi-million dollar real estate developments (basically holding them hostage for racial extortion purposes). The consequences need to be considered.
On the plus side though, cigarettes will be pretty damned cheap when we are all just one big Indian reservation. (We might actually prefer that to living under the Obama Regime)
The President can sign any treaty he wants to, but under the Constitution it isn’t binding until it’s ratified by the Senate.
The diet ~ lingonberries and reindeer (and fish on special occasions). The transportation ~ sled. GLOBAL WARMING IS OVER!
You will learn to enjoy throat singing, drums and trumpets.
The Mohawk have more than their fairshare of the appropriate "shared MTDNA strand" and they have been into this "ceremonial cannibalism" thing. It may come back!
A different world Fur Shur, and all the Liberals will learn to do hard labor on pig farms.

Europe belongs to the Basques? I don’t want my share - too much of a liability.
Send the illegals back to Turkey and Iraq where they came from.
Of note ~ I grew up in Indianapolis. The place was heavily German but it also had more than its fair share of Danes but no one knew the real words for the stuff they fed us in school. Had something to do with WWI and suppression of German and German-like kultur!
I was over 50 before I realized that the school cafeteria "fish" was actually lutefisk!
Ain't bad, but it ain't good either!
Most of the current world supply of lutefisk is "created" in secret Scanderhoovian laboratories hidden around the MSPL metro region.
