Profiles in Courage: Hiding From Governor Palin in Illinois
C4P ^ | May 4, 2010 | Peter S

A number of high profile Republican candidates in Illinois have conspicuously declined to attend Governor Palin’s fundraiser for the Illinois Republican Party on May 12. Among the candidates doing so:

Mark Kirk - running for US Senate Bill Brady - running for governor Randy Hultgren - running for US House in IL-14 Bob Dold - running for US House in IL-10 Dan Rutherford - running for Treasurer

As this article notes, Kirk offers the excuse that he's doing the people's business as US Representative in Washington, DC that day. Brady, Hultgren and Rutherford presumably offer the same excuse that they are doing their jobs as state Senators in Springfield. Dold? It’s not clear what his excuse is--he's an attorney who runs his family’s pest control business.

Hmmm . . .

While the fundraiser is on a Wednesday, the only one who has to travel any meaningful distance is Kirk. However, congressmen like Kirk come home to their districts all the time. Kirk is also running for office so he's spending lots of time in Illinois, anyway. Last but not least, the fundraiser is only a mile or two from the O'Hare Airport!

Is there a common thread here? Perhaps there is: Mitt Romney. Governor Romney recently announced his endorsements of candidates in IL.

Mark Kirk is fighting to fill the ‘Arlen Specter Chair’ at the RINO University. Talk about craven.

In order to stampede, they’d have to choose a direction, make a decision, and then get off of their dead ass. Not likely to happen in Illinois. Jellyfish don’t stampede.

RINOs run (and govern) based on polls and popularity - true conservatives run on what they believe and their principles...and the conservative who runs on that usually winds up MORE popular than the RINO's...

I guess those RINO's don't want any of Sarah's popularity to rub off on them...hell, Letterman might make joke about them, or something.

That makes it easy - they've given the list to us. Write 'em down and write 'em off.

Other candidates have blown Sarah off as well. I hope it comes back to haunt them. I hope she someday gets a chance to stick it to them.

If she’s anything like I think she is, “sticking it to them” is the last thing on her mind. She wants to see what she can do to save this Ameican Titanic we’re on.

As I have noted, Mrs. Palin has more stones than “Republican” males.

They definitely must be hiding from something or "hiding something" ...

If I were in Illinois, I wouldn’t vote for Kirk. Isn’t there a conservative independent/Tea party candidate? There ought to be room on the right to get 35% of the vote and beat this little RINO and the crook the Dems put up.

Why doesn’t Ditka atone for his failure to stop Obama in 2004 and save the Senate from these two colossal losers? He would be the perfect candidate to take these two out.
