Sorry ... maybe I’m having a dense moment, but I don’t think I’m following you. You’re going to have to clarify that for me. I’m not sure what you’re referring to when you say “the plan” or “the point of initial engagement”. Thanks.

It references combat, and is a common joke among the military.

You make a brilliant plan to assault and destroy an enemy (group, position, ship or aircraft), and then you execute "the plan" which works flawlessly until the first contact with the enemy, at which point, (in the real world), everything goes to s**t, and you must adapt or die.
