Phone-sex chat lines are part of web of cybersocializing (Murder of DC School Principal)
WaPo Breaking News Blog ^ | 05/05/2010 | David Nakamura & Paul Schwartzman

When D.C. principal Brian Betts contacted a phone-sex chat line to arrange a meeting that police said led to his slaying last month, he was entering a vast world of telephone and online socializing used by millions of Americans each day, said experts who monitor the largely unregulated but highly profitable industry.

Hat tip Weekly Standard Blog.

Please read the whole thing to appreciate the depraved attitude of the operators of these "services".

The Weekly Standard highlighted one quote, but I'd like to go with another from the article, because this gal needs to win some kind of S.T.U.P.I.D. award.

From the article:

Dee Leander, a manager at Ripple Communications, a Nevada-based company that operates national chat lines, said that she had been "in communication with the authorities" regarding a homicide near Washington, but she declined to elaborate. Leander said the greeting on one of her company's sites, DC Raven, a Washington-oriented chat line, instructs callers "never, ever, ever, ever" to meet anyone they connect with through her service.

"People are people, and they do what they want to do," she said. "There are many good stories. People who are socially isolated, people who are obese, who are blind talking to others. Once a year, there's something really bad. I've had at least two cases this year." [end quote]

It seems this school principal was a hard working if very troubled person. It is sad that our society has deteriorated to such an extent than he indeed seems to have inadvertently sought out his own murder in a world where "once (or twice) a year" these things "just happen".

This sure as heck ain't helping "the children".

" said experts who monitor the largely unregulated but highly profitable industry."

These people want everything regulated don't they?

Also perhaps the SEC could regulate them?

“Also perhaps the SEC could regulate them?”

Probably it would be the FCC or the FTC.

This article really disturbed me.

Here is this dead school principal, well not just dead - MURDERED because of his pursuit of i-don’t-know-what-word-to-use-but-I-think-there-might-be-one-in-german sex. And evidently he’s not the only victim of these type activities. And some people think it’s OK to make money off of facilitating these encounters and sometimes someone meets a bad person and they get offed that’s just how it goes and you gotta take it in stride.

And it all sounds just so callous and crude and hello! criminal.

And yet there it is, in the Washington Post, the well respected newspaper of our national capital and nary a peep of condemnation. I mean even for the libs at the WaPo it seems kind of depraved.

So I guess you also want to close down bars where people meet cause somebody makes money providing the service but from time to time things go bad ? Also lonely hearts organizations, or any of the other venues where people connect, maybe including churches ?

When the Model T took off and motels sprang up, motels were the target of criticism. They encouraged depravity.

People with no self-discipline want to be regulated. They are morons.

“So I guess you also want to close down bars where people meet...”

I was in favor of closing the “bath houses” back in the day.

I also think there is a difference between going to Church, or even a bar, to “meet somebody” and phoning a phone sex line for a hook-up (as the younguns call it). Sure, I’m sure someone could be killed by someone they meet at church, but I doubt it happens twice a year.

I understand life is not 100% safe and when I was posting I did include the full quote from that woman who pointed out some of the advantages her service provides people.

It wasn’t so much the services themselves that bother me, although they do, it was the tone of the piece that bothered me.

There have always been places where people can go to cruise for anonymous sex, but yes it disturbs me that this behaviour is being main-streamed.

All parents should watch the NBC Dateline series on online predators......these are men looking for sex with children....male and female children.

The people that show up are the lowlifes of society——skeevy, unkempt, with depraved sexual urges.

They engage in explicit online sexual language and actually send pics of their genitals to kids who say they are 13-14.

I know someone in LE who works in the cybercrimes area and it’s evidently amazing how much time people spend on these chatlines or in chatrooms. A lot of them are people looking for minors (I suspect this guy was doing just that) - and a lot of them, like the “youths” he met, are people looking for victims. Very scary world.

Three men, all 18, have been arrested and charged with murder.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Some thoughts on this matter:

** I suspected that this involved homosexuality. The author of the article buried this homosexual information in the middle of the article.

** Parents beware! Homosexuals seem to be flocking to government education. And...Remember! Homos hire homos!

** Wow! A government school principal who gets his jollies from homosexual chat groups!... Is having people like this as authority figures the wonderful “real world” socialization that homeschoolers are missing?

I am pinging you because it seems that homosexuality among government school teachers and administrators seems to be increasing.

Since au fond, this is a just another tale of an Affirmative Action Anus with too much time on his hands and too large a publicly funded salary, which I assure you is well (was) well into six figures, you'll hear nary a peep from WaPo.

There is probably a community organizer at work right now trying to get a plaque, a park, a library, etc. named after this pervert. BTW, the murderer is also a victim. Can't wait for the next installment of "D.C. Capers on My Dime"

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

I don't think it is increasing - it was always there. They used to keep it buried a little deeper though.
