WASHINGTON -- A fixture since President Harry S. Truman signed a bill proclaiming a National Day of Prayer 58 years ago, 2010 could be the last time the event is observed if the White House fails in an appeal against a court ruling that it violates the ban on government-backed religion.
Wisconsin-based U.S. District Court Judge Barbara Crabb ruled April 15 in favor of the Freedom From Religion Foundation in a suit brought against President Barack Obama. She ruled that the federal law that designates a National Day of Prayer and requires an annual presidential proclamation of the National Day of Prayer violates the establishment clause of the Constitution's First Amendment.
Despite that ruling, several observances took place around the capital Thursday, including at the Pentagon, the Cannon House Office Building and on the steps of the U.S. Capitol. In her decision, Crabb said until the defendants in the case exhaust their right to appeal the decision, observance ceremonies could still go ahead.

This will be overturned upon appeal... and Americans can still sue if the muzzie-in-chief will not.

There. That's better
The last days of America as we know it.
We can stop this if we wish to take back our country.
You know...the National Day of Prayer Breakfast when BO/BS said: "You can question my policies without questioning my faith -- or for that fact, my citizenship."
We don't need government to pray. Trumans declaration was certainly not permission from the government to pray. That is a God-given right that government is here to protect. What we dont need is government trying to tell us not to pray or speak in His name. Thats the real issue facing us today from the enemy within.
National prayer for our country, to a lot of people and churches, happens just about every day, week, and month.
The operative word is "official" as in all the big shot muckity mucks in DC gather together for yet another free meal on the taxpayers and spew their pious rhetoric with TV cameras present to show all the sheeple how reliiiiggggious they are.
No, I don’t know exactly what you mean - but I’m not cynical about National Days of Prayer of Prayer Breakfasts. There once was a time when gong to church was “the thing to do” and that’s why many people went. No more, thankfully. I think theres more sincerity in those participating in Christian events now because anti-Christian is in vogue, at least in some parts of this country and Christianity is certainly controversial in D.C.
