Al Franken takes over the U.S. Senate floor to explain a newspaper cartoon to the waiting nation
LA Times ^ | May 7, 2010

All we can say is thank goodness Minnesota's newest Democratic U.S. senator, Al Franken, was on duty Thursday.

< snip >

And we realized suddenly that somehow we had inexplicably missed the comedian's detailed explanation of a newspaper editorial cartoon enlarged so that he could identify the symbols and characters in it so the elderly senators could see it. The current White House's pedantry is apparently infectious.

< snip >

No, this is not a "Saturday Night Live" skit. This is the real thing from the Senate floor where the 100 members are paid $174,000 -- each -- for this work. The folks back home must be very proud of the honorable gentleman.

Well, the Honorable seems to have reached the shark-jump level with the LA Times. Who'd'a thunk it? Maybe a Republican does have a chance in CA this fall.

They already passed socialism so what do they care? Their power will be solidified by a dependent and desperate voter base for decades to come. Assuming we survive for decades.

It's bad enough having politicians in positions of leadership, but we've come to a low point when we have professional comedians pretending to be politicians, and then filling those same positions of leadership!

I wish someone from the "loyal opposition" would have asked him to explain a "derivative". That would be something to see...

I happen to check your profile page. Chariots of Fire is one
of my favorite movies. We visited St.Andrews golf course. The
beach was pointed out to us as where the running scenes near
the water were filmed.

I don’t know. But their posture of simple, forthright honesty and integrity is forfeit forever after that brazen fraud.

But for the fraud perpetuated in Minnesota, there would be no HealthControl law.

What an idiot. To suggest “anyone who sees this political cartoon and doesn’t support my amendment (and the bill) just doesn’t know how to think right” displays a level of stupidity that surprises me - even for congress.

We won’t. If this bunch is not turned around politically, the relatively peaceful end to it is a bankrupt dissolution of the United States, similar to that of the Soviet Union.

I do not think there would be a successor State with the same borders. Again, like the Soviet Union.

The Pride of Ninnysota on display. Surely the electorate there has to rank among the lowest in intelligence of the 50 states.

There have been many jackasses elected to the United States Senate. Other than the current occupants of the White House (POTUS and VPOTUS) I can think of few less deserving or more embarassing Senators than Franken. God help us if people truly get the government they deserve.
