Something strange happening when I click on the link. Page loads for about 1 sec then my screen goes blank and it won’t come back. Any ideas why that would happen?

Strange, isn’t it, how the Progs sort of lost interest in stem cells once it was more widely known and accepted that embryonic stem cells were not the only, and possibly, not the best source of new therapies.

No, I don’t know why that would be happening. I post frequently from Science Daily and I’ll check the link on my side. Surely a helpful Freeper will be along shortly.

Strange isn’t quite the word. Hypocritical is

When it came out that Calif had spent 3 bil on embryo stem cell research with nothing to show for it and were switching all grant requests to adult stem cell research I thought my Lib sorta friends were going to cry.
Every day Bush is proven right in almost every way
but this
this is so exciting on many levels and offers so much hope

This is one of many issues that began to make me more cynical as a person. Liberalism simply doesn’t concern itself with results. Conservatism does. It asks, “what works?” Then “how do we get there?” All of the stem cell debate for Progs was just about worshipping abortion — actually finding therapies and cures, forget that! Otherwise, why such opposition to adult stem cell research? Why focus exclusively on embryonic stem cells?

I do think adult stem cell research is tremendously exciting and hopeful. Personally, I also find it awe-inspiring.

Ah “Otherwise, why such opposition to adult stem cell research? “
If I remember the excuse/lie the left used was that adult stem cells couldn’t transform into as many other cells and Bush by not allowing for new lines of ESC doomed people like Michael J fox and Christopher Reed to lives of pain.

In actuality the opposite was revealed. ESC have been proven to actually be dangerous.

Oh, noes. Not another one for the Progs’ Unintended Consequences file.

Ugh.

Adult stem cells are research gold.

Embryonic stem cells create...tumors.

You wrote: “Otherwise, why such opposition to adult stem cell research? Why focus exclusively on embryonic stem cells?”

My answer: “Isn’t abortion a money maker? Wouldn’t they make money by selling embryos for their stem cells?”

Yes, you are right and my question was rhetorical for just such reasons. The Left had no interest in the true health benefits of stem cell research. It was all about promoting and mainstreaming abortion, as you point out.
